Need your help to give this guitar some life
« on: December 28, 2013, 08:31:43 PM »
Hey guys.

i've had this guitar sitting around here for a while. it's a peavey generation. not a bad plank but i modded the heck out of it and eventually sold the pickups and hardware and used the neck on another guitar. now that guitar has a brand new warmoth neck and i already have a classic tele with blackguards, so here i am pondering what to do with it.

Body is adler, i don't have much of a clue what i should do with this guitar. I know i'll need a blank pickguard that i'll cut, the front of the body is sanded so it's ready for a refinish or a coat of oil. i'm thinking to go '72 tele custom as far as the control scheme goes, so twin humbuckers and 2 vol 2 tone and a large scratch plate.

Now the thing is, what sound i'm heading for. this is where i need your help, i'm a versatile player but i have deep rock roots. i'm tempted to go over the top with warpigs on this baby.

here's the photo, if you had this blank canvas, how would you give life back to this guitar? i'm open to all options. i'd love to warpig it as much as i'd love to slap a single tv jones powertron and go "cabronita" on this axe.

cheers!
My BK's:
Black Dog8-Riff Raff8 / Black Dog7-Mule7
C-Bomb Set / Blackhawk Bridge
Holydiver Set/ BG50 Set

Ohhh project time, nice! I am currently pushing P90s cause I have come to like em so much, so if you donīt have some already those could be very cool. Certainly lively, versatile and deeply rock rooted.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

I was thinking P90s too. Maybe a set of Mississippi Queens? Very rock but a bit different if you have a lot of humbucker guitars. If it were me, I'd oil the top and keep it simple.

I think the same, with the natural body finish, a white pickguard and black pickup covers and plastic parts I think it would look cool.

thanks guys! i certainly don't have a guitar with real p90's and with the swimming pool route i have to go with a pickguard for sure so what's the harm in routing for p90's

but then i'm tempted with a pig90, i really don't have any hot single coils and that'd be nice!

the white guard i'm not 100% sure.... black with cream covers and black hardware?

Surely works too!

I was thinking of a 70s period Fender look

I have been having an eye on that too for some time now. I think that it would be the single most agressive and nasty BKP of them all. Depending on what rock you play it could work nicely.

Dual P90s sounds like a good idea.

Alternatively, you could look into at least one Filtertron for a more Cabronita-esque style.

Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Personally if I had that guitar I'd probably go for a Mick Mars type sound and install Rebel Yells. Red with a black pickguard and red/black zebra open coils with chrome hardware. Or maybe even purple/black
BLACK HAWKS
IMPULSES
COBRA-T
WAR PIGS
STOCKHOLM
COLD SWEATS
MIRACLE MAN
TRUE GRIT

I second that!
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
