Bareknuckle Warpig decal/case
« on: December 29, 2013, 12:05:12 AM »
Hey. I am new to this forum, so this is exciting. I have a ESP Eclipse II ACSB that i want to buy new pickups too.. They got stormy monday pickups, but i want more output, so i want to get some Bareknuckle Warpigs.. My guitar is made off mahogany, so shoud i get ceramics? And i have a oppurtunity to swap my Stormy Monday set with a friends Warpig set (ceramic), But they are in white colour.. I want them in the warpig/tyger finish/decal. Is it possible to buy those decals?=)

Thanks

Kiichi

Hi and welcome! You do realise that the jump you are thinking about is perhaps the biggest one you could make in terms of BKPs? Those two really are on oposite ends of the spectrum. Just wanne make that sure.

How does the guitar sound acousticly? You say it´s made of mahagony, but that is a wood with a broad range. Also is it just that or are there other woods too? Fretboard rosewood or ebony? Neck mahagony too or maple?
Mostly though listen and see how it sounds acousticly. Is it dark? Bright? Balanced? Warm?

Also important is what styles you play and what kind of sound you are after.

You could have the tyger covers fitted. You´d just have to send them in and have them do it (needs potting so you can probably not do it yourself even if you got the covers).
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Yeah, I think it's kind of silly to do these kind of swaps based on what a friend might have.  Unless you have played your friend's guitar and it is a similar construction (woods, design) to yours and you really want the sound that it has then I would suggest against it.  The difference between your Stormy Monday pickups and Warpigs is vast.

You don't say what sort of music you play with them.  It might be the case that Stormy Mondays are all wrong for you and that the Warpig is correct.  Or it might be the case that something in between - which is pretty much the whole BKP range -would suit you better.

If you can give more information regarding your guitar and the results you want to achieve someone will be able to give you good advice.

Yeah, i will be more detailed now=) here is the specs:
ESP Eclipse II ACSB
Construction: Set-Neck
Scale: 24.75 inches
Body: Mahogany
Top: Quilted Maple
Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard:Rosewood (ACSB)
Nut: 42mm Bone
Neck Contour: Thin U
Frets: 22 XJ
And 3 toogleswitches.

I should have mention this in the first post, but i just got my guitar yesterday. Looks awesome with the Quilted top BTW, happy that i bougth this instead od the ESP adler signature!  Previous owner changed the pickups from BL 500xl in neck and 500r to Stormy mondays neck and bridge. So i got Stormy Mondays.  I am used to play my Boogiestreet Boogiebolt. That is a very good custombuilded ML guitar with Dimebucker in bridge and SH4 in neck. I love the tones from this guitar!! But i want something that is more thighter than the dimebucker, and a little more articulate. Since i am used to them, i want to try something new on my ESP and thats why i want Bareknuckles.

The Stormy Mondays that is in the ESP is not as hot as i want (dimebucker got 16.4 or 17.0 in dc res). Since i cant play on my beloved on my KT88 modded JCM 2203 all the time, i need to get a good output when playing at low volumes(i am a economicstudent, and rent a small place with neighbours). So when i am there(most of the time), i play on a MicroCube(little embarrising, but is actually very good in this case).  The music i play is: Pantera, black sabbath,Van halen,Satriani,Ozzy,Down,COC, etc.....

I want the pickups to be tight at low ends, much output and be very good for shredding/soloing. Much output is wanted because if i set pedals in front of a microcube,it would most of the times sound shitety. But when i am at my second home, i abuse my JCM all the time=)..  Thats why i thougth too change my stormy mondays with my friends Warpigs. they sound very good on his guitar, but he got alder body, mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard. He want to swap them, cause he says that he bougth cerimac, and alnico`s sound better on alder. So i got a different wood on my Eclipse.

As ive read and googled, i think the Miracle Man, Warpigs or maybe HD would be in my range. Ive heard that many people are satisfied of the Miracle Man, but i dont have a option to try it.

So i need your opinion. What would fit best to my style due to my preferances? I am very happe that someone will help me out on this=)

Based on that, I would suggest the Cold Sweat set.  It works well with guitars with similar specs, has a tight bottom end, and can do pretty much all you want.  Otherwise I'd recommend pairing a Cold Sweat neck with a Miracle Man bridge

The reason why I suggest the Cold Sweat bridge over the Miracle Man bridge is that while I think the latter might work well it is higher output than the CS and may be a little dark, depending on how dark your guitar is acoustically (i.e., unplugged).   The CS is a no-brainer recommendation in mahogany and is a bit like a more 'civilized' version of a MM, cleaner and more articulate.  It is also the closest BKP to Dimebag's sound.

I have had a Warpig set in my Explorer, and found the combination too dark.  I've pulled the bridge pickup out and replaced it with an alnico Nailbomb which had been too middy in my SG (I replaced it with a Cold Sweat) and the A-Bomb works really well there, so last night I ordered the matching neck pickup.  Warpigs - alnico or ceramic - sound better in brighter guitars like your friends alder guitar, or a thinner mahogany guitar such as an SG

Yeah, in that much mahagony with only maple top the WP will likely be too dark. I really second Agent Orange on all counts. Very good recommendations!

Thanks for helping=)  I think a Miracle Man would fit me very well and a cold sweat in neck.. Since my guitar is a ESP Eclipse ACSB, Quilted top, so i think those pickups would look very nice in burnt chrome=)
