New Car!
« on: December 30, 2013, 07:44:41 AM »
So I've taken the plunge and got myself a new(ish) car.

I had a 2000 Ford Focus 1.8 which had served me well but had started to go down hill in terms of reliability. So I went and part exchanged it for this!

2010 Fiat Punto Evo (not mine in the picture but looks exactly the same)

21,000 miles, 1 owner with 12 months warranty and it looks like it just came out of the showroom for the first time.

Being 6ft2 there's a limit to how small a car I can feel comfortable in and this fits me just fine. Lots of gadgets that I'm trying to get my head around and most importantly it's costing me a lot less in fuel, tax, insurance and hopefully servicing/parts.

It's been a good year with buying my first home with the wife, honeymoon, new car and as of yesterday a new guitar  :D

Getting a car with low mileage and letting the previous owner take the bulk of the depreciation.... great idea!!!

How many miles did you get on the focus before it wasn't worth keeping?

Well I've had 2. My first was a 1.4 Zetec X reg with 110,000 which I part exchanged for the 1.8 Focus Zetec. I got rid of the 1.8 with 85,000 miles on it.

I only got a few hundred quid for it but it helped out a lot. I had problems with the clutch starting to go, problems with cold starting and some idiot forced me into a curb which meant I had to pay out £200 for new wheels and tyres.

Oh how things have changed! (past owner of a few older Fiats...)

Going by the reviews of the Punto Evo they seem to be very reliable. I've got a friend who has a 2012 500 and she hasn't had any problems with hers so it seems Fiat have stepped things up.

I don't drive and I don't know anything about cars, what's good or what's cred, but I really like the look of the Fiat 500, it's one of the few modern cars I can recognise.

I have this weird sort of blind spot with cars - I have no trouble at all identifying older models but from the '90s onwards, apart from obvious things like whether they're a saloon or a hatchback, the vast majority of them look exactly the same to me.  And about 99% of them seem to be silver. :?
