metale's MIM NGD
« on: December 31, 2013, 06:15:55 PM »
I never liked the Telecaster. Why would I want a country guitar? Only recently did I start looking more into them, and apreciating the simplicity of the instrument.

My good friend told me he wanted to sell his MIM Classic 50s, and made me the (good IMO) price of 250 euros. It's a bit battered, from quite some good years of regular giging, but that doesn't bother me. It's completly stock (and yes, missing the E string! ). It will now gig alot less and see quite alot more mods  8)

Next to some of my other guitars:

It will most likely get the LP's MQ on te neck position. The rest of the details are still being laid-out on my mind. But first, have to go buy a regular gauge string set and do a setup.

Some years ago, the same friend sold me his first guitar, a squier strat, for cheap. It came like this:

and I ended up doing this:

I like buying guitars from him :)
Black Dog (b), Abraxas (b), The Mule (n), Mississippi Queen (n), Trilogy Suite (m)

Had: Riff Raff 7 (b), Painkiller 8 (b)

That's a good price for the MIM tele. And a nice colour too. Put some Blackguards 50 in there and you have a rocking machine.

Thanks, guys.

This afternoon, I couldn't wait longer and butchered two new sets of strings to put together a set for the tele. The gauges are 10, 13, 17, 28, 38, 48.

Toke it apart, neck and all, to clean it and adjust the truss rod. Also adjusted the bridge for intonation and action. Two conclusions:

1- The tele and the epi valve JR love each other!  :D

2- I LOVE the middle position. The neck and bridge positions will take some time to get used to, but the middle position felt and sounded great jamming to some RHCP.

Well...  :) I was pretty sure about where I wanted to take this guitar, but not anymore  I'm only still sure that the pickguard will (probably!) be black.

I have a few possible paths as far as pickups are concerned:

  • Neck Mississippi Queen (I will have a spare one when the Mule arrives to the LP) + one of the following for the Bridge:
    • Blackguard Flat 50
    • The Boss
  • Neck Mississippi Queen (see above) + Bridge Piledriver (nice combo, but will end up with a guitar that doesn't sound like a telecaster)
  • Full tele set, most likely Blackguard Flat 50

Taking a look at my bridge pickups, I (will) have an Abraxas (on the ES-333), a Black Dog (on the LP), a SSL-5 (on the black strat) and an EMG-81 (on the plywood strat).
My point is, if the tele was my only guitar, I would go for the Piledriver, but as is I think I don't need it and should get a more tele-ish option.

A black plate will make it more Blackguard, so then you need the BG5O's too  :D, which can handle heavy styles very well.

Why would you want one?

Well, now you are officially hooked on Teles. I used to think they were quite nerdy, but man was I wrong. They are about the most versatile guitars out there, mean rocking machines and great clean tones.

Enjoy!

 We'll see. I have some time, since I ordered 2 BKPs recently and the bank account needs to recharge :) Do you think the MQ would be worth trying?

I'm enjoying it alright. Still getting used to the bridge pickup by itself, but also don't know how good/bad is the stock one. Sounds great together with the neck.

P90's work absolutely fab in telecasters. Especially for the neck they're a common choice. Yeah and I know about bankaccounts...

Looks just like my new used Tele. I put a black pick guard on mine as first measure, makes it 3 stages cooler in my book.

There is something about Teles, they just ring. Pity none of the big guns use them - except for Billy Gibbons and some others with Tele-alikes, but not real Teles (the bridge and the pickups) after all ...

I'm a pretty big rhcp fan, and both Frusciante and Klinghoffer use them plenty. Even Hetfield and Hammett have a couple ones!  :D
