Got this analogue delay in a trade. 'tis a Malekko EKKO 600B (discontinued) and it sounds really good. It's got some cool features like a second output, buffer/truebypass switch (sounds best with buffer on) and input for an expression pedal - I haven't got one to test it out, though. Clean chunky repeats with very little modulation. No where near as bonkers or maddening as the ZPSDLX that Juan built me but it's a different flavor of awesome. Kinda like a posh Carbon Copy I guess.

It's proper boutique, like. It has a toy bug inside and everything.

That is proper boutique. Looks fun to play around with

Those Malekko's are fine delays. Nice catch.

I read from Malekko that if it gets more than 9V it fries, though. Hope it plays nice on the Diago Powerstation.

Any suggestions on a half decent and inexpensive expression pedal?

Edit: I was being tongue in cheek about it being boutique as I find the term abhorrent (even if it does check the right boxes). The bug is genuine and probably the only thing inside it that was made in China ;-p

Also I found the instructions on the website amusing.

"WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH TRIM POTS INSIDE PEDAL! YOU WILL NOT MAKE ANY ASPECT OF THE ECHO 600 BETTER!! THEY HAVE BEEN SET FOR OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE!!! DO NOT TOUCH!!!!

FIRSTLY: I KNOW I JUST SAID NOT TO MESS WITH THE TRIM POTS INSIDE THE PEDAL, BUT THERE IS ONE POT YOU WILL NEED TO ADJUST:"

I had one of these. sold it on ebay a few years ago. mine had a roach in too...! (maybe that's my old pedal!)

It is a great sounding delay and I prefered the buffer 'on' too. In the end my pedals were getting in such danger of being beat up on tour I just went back to using my DD-3.

Of course, but at the same time it's cool if the pedal is nicely presented right?

Yep, that'll bias the BBD, set the clock and the feedback level more than likely. They really mean it, they're utter bar-stewards to bias by ear. The bias don't touch. The clock will lengthen/shorten the delay. The longer it is, the noisier it'll be (it'll start squealing). I'm assuming they're letting you mess with the feedback, that'll let you increase the number of repeats, maybe allowing you get get self oscillation with the front feedback knob dimed for example. If it sounds good though, I'd be tempted to leave it be.

The IC can only run at 9v, any more will kill it. They really mean it about that ;)

Yea, it doesn't hurt, Gwem  8)

I emailed Malekko and they said it should be fine on the Diago as long as it's output is 9V, which it is.

I can see why, Dmoney. The finish looks good but it's not very sturdy, tis a very thin paint and you can see the brush lines. And the face graphic is basically a fancy transfer. I'm not knocking it, it looks good and has lasted five years but I'm used to military level boot proof finish from Juan.

I read that the trim pot you are allowed to play with sets the gain level to get it to unity but it's already there so I shall leave well alone ;)

I'll try both delays together later to see what madness happens.

Prolly finished the same way we used to before we switched to powder and Envirotex. A lot of my old pedals pick up chips and dings just by looking at them. Insta-relicing!

Fastest aging pedal I had was a JAM Waterfall. Pretty sure it had been finished with crayon.

I was always getting my stuff kicked right across the stage. lost a wah that way. Other stuff started getting banged up. I can replace a DD-3 without too much bother, but the Malekko would have been hard to loose a buy again.

I kind of want another analog delay now.
