It's Nanoweb that I use and they're certainly good strings even if they don't have the ultimate tone of DR strings but it's the longevity of Elixir that clinches it for me. When I used DR strings I paid about £7-8 a set and they lasted 2-3 months if I looked after them carefully with string cleaner/lube. I found a place in America where Elixir strings cost me the same amount (plus slightly higher postage) and they last 4-6 months. That's quite a saving over a number of guitars and a few years.

I tried Dean Markley Blue Steels for just one set. They were a similar price to DR, the tone was good but nothing special over DR or Elixir and snapped in no time at all. Just not worth it sadly.

Do you mind sharing where you buy your Elixirs?

I'm at work at the moment but I'll post a link when I get home assuming they're still at the same price.

Getting to this rather late as I was out tonight. Anyway, here's the link:

£7.08 for a set of electric Elixir strings is certainly cheaper than I can find them anywhere in the UK. The postage wasn't unreasonable from memory and the service was excellent. They were dispatched quickly and didn't take too long to arrive. I'd certainly use them again for strings.

never really bought in to the idea of elixers, strings can still break and gather grime. I'd rather 2 or 3 sets of standard strings

Try a set, you might be very surprised. As stated previously, they sound consistently good for a couple of months. regular strings gets dull quickly for me (like in two weeks, and they only keep the top end spark for one week tops)

They are very cool

Elixir for me is certainly about consistency and longevity over ultimate tone. They sound good but I admit there are some normal strings that can sound better when new. The thing is that with Elixirs I find that if I look after them well (as I do with normal strings) the tone never really deteriorates much and a set can last up to 6 months. I have had a set on for a year before and they still sounded ok. That's at least 2-3 times longer than I get from normal strings so they do become cost effective.
