Tayden True Brit Speakers clip w/ Strat

Some people here at BKP forum are interested in this brand of UK-made speakers. I have a couple of True Brits (G12M Greenback cone) in a closed back 2x12" cabinet. IMO Tayden speakers make a lot of sense for us in the UK; we-priced, really well-built in the UK and good tones. This a clip recorded using a Strat, a JTM45 ish amp with original KT66s. Vol on the amp was kept low while master volume was cranked. The idea was to get a clean tone with loads of character.

That strat had a 0.1 uF tone cap rolled down to 8 or so. Also a high capacitance cable was used. The explains the slightly warmer tones.  Stratty enough but maybe not your typical vintage Strat clean tone.  The tones actually remind me of some the tele tones of Jeff Buckley in the Live at the Sin-e album. Funny eh?

It sounded pretty stratty to me :lol: From the sounds of things the True Brit is a bit brighter than the High Brit. That's my only complaint with the High Brit, it's quite warm- and smooth-sounding, whereas a Greenback has a bit of bite in the top end. It doesn't really worry me overly because I use it combined with the Great Brit which has a bit of fizz in the top end and they balance nicely, but at one point I was thinking of getting two High Brits and I'm glad I didn't do that. At that point I was after higher-wattage Greenback type tones, and I'm not sure I'd have been happy. Maybe that's just par for the course with the higher wattage thing, though, maybe all the higher wattage Greenback-style speakers are a bit smoother.

The true brit with its medium size magnet sounds really good when used with such a rich sounding amp as a KT66 loaded JTM45.. I've always had success with G12M speakers

Yeah I like greenbacks too. Especially with Marshally-style amps. I find they can be too middy with some things, though.

I've always been quite interested in the Taydens, but I just don't know which would work in my setup with my amps  :lol:

what is your set up? The Taydens are very similar to some mordels of classic Celestions and one model of the old Fanes.

By the way, the Taydens were recorded independently: one speaker was miced with a ribbon microphone. The other with a condenser mircrophone.

I use either a 50w SLO Clone with 6L6GCs or a 100w Splawn Quick Rod through a 2x12, so I need something with enough power handling to not blow with my amps.

Music wise I'm pretty firmly in the 70s Rock/Punk and 80s Glam side of things  :lol:

Yep, that's the problem I tend to have!  :lol:

I'm currently using 2x V30s; they sound perfectly good but I think something with a bit more of a greenback flavour would fit well too.

My current 2 ideas are to change 1 of my V30s for 1 of the new 75w Creamback versions of the G12H30, G12H75 I think?, or to change both for a Eminence Governor/Wizard pair.

I thought the great brit sounded very good combined with a v30 (Tayden has a V30-style speaker too but I haven't tried it). It's g12h30-ish, though to me sounds closer to the heritage g12h30 (the 55Hz ones I have). It also has a bit of fizz in the top end which the v30 should tone down a bit, but whether it does that enough sort of depends on how much you like fizz... and if you know you like the v30 combined with celestion's g12h30 then (assuming it sounds close, I haven't tried it) the celestion creamback g12h30 might be the safer choice.

I dunno about the eminence thing- I haven't tried those two, and they probably sound slightly different to the celestions, but if you already have v30s you might be spending money for the sake of it (and I'm the expert in doing that when it comes to speakers :lol: ).
