What neck/fingerboard does your Strat have? Sorry, don`t remember it now :D

So basically you can confirm that pickup sounds better in lower tunings than standard?


There`s no much difference tone-wise between alder and swamp ash apart from the fact that ash might have less mids, is that right? Both woods are pretty much similar and well balanced.

 Maple neck.  Rose wood fret board.  I think lower tunings sound better in general so maybe it's just me. I'll be posting a video soon so you can get an idea.

ok here is the update video. i tried to play most of the riffs i played in the les paul video. for some reason its showing up as audio only for me but hopefully that will be fixed soon. even so, all you really need is the audio i guess haha.

Thank you so much mate. Now I am pretty much convinced that I will get a Jugg one day for an axe. It seems do do most of what I wanted the AM to do. Seems I am really on the same page as Bulb here, altough I have different musical goals. I still wanne try the AM in a nice baritone tuned to A# (I have it around after all cause I see a lot of potential) but that PU is more specific than the Jugg I think. The Jugg in a brighter guitar (upper mid heavy) could be all I ever wanted for a all around modern drop D guitar.

yeah i dont particularly want an AM but that pickup was the reason i learned about BKP because of the band I Am Abomination. killer tones. the Jugg definitely has the AM essence to it but clearly it can handle a lot more. glad i could help you.

I have an AM set around and I think it is great, but also very specific to me. I tried it mostly in a LP and there it did not work for what I wanted. I do really like middy stuff, but his was too much. However in a Baritone I can really see this working. It was tight as f*ck and drier than the desert, so in a rather juicy Baritone it would work for what I wanted in my mind, which is a certain take on an In Flames type style of playing. In a LP tuning down that far s*cks and the extra mids did not help my case.
Still the neck was glorious for early Petrucci.

Now looking at the the Jugg I am mostly on the fence about how it handles dropped tunings compared to the AM, but I feel it is a lot more versatile in somewhat normal tunings compared to the AM and less picky about the midrange.

Since I am (not technically, but by feeling and upbringing) too old for the really modern music I was wondering about how the Jugg would sound with those (which really was my biggest concern, the versatility) and you did more to answer to that than anything else I have seen.

After comparing both of your videos, LP and Strat ones, I can say that definitely like Strat much more. Juggs in that case really shine and sounds more interesting overall. To me in the LP it sounded little 'cheap' and 'common' not showing distinctive and 'core' voicing of the pickup at it`s best. In my opinion Strat shows pickup`s wider spectrum. Just like it more.

By the way, when it comes to LP I really liked those cleans at the end of the video. How does clean sound compare, `cause you haven`t shown much of 'clean' cleans with Strat.

How versatile is the Jugg? Can it drop the drive to classic rock or blues?

While in my opinion Juggs sound better in brighter guitar, I have a question about the best and the most suitable wood combination for Juggs.

I`m in the middle of building Warmoth Tele 'from hell' :lol:

Basically I have a swamp ash body with maple top. Guitar will have set of Juggs. Will be tuned low to C#. It has to cover modern metal like Stone Sour, Killswitch Engage ect. I don`t want to go too djent, something in-between. Those tones of littleredguitars2`s Strat sounded brilliant.

And the question is... what neck wood combination would suit the best to above specs having set of Juggs in it?

While swamp ash body seems to be well balanced wood with little less mids than alder, I have a problem to choose matching neck.

Im stuck between all maple neck or a bit warmer Goncao Alves/Ebony board neck.
What would you recommend? I`m afraid that one-piece maple might be too bright.

And the other question is about weight. Swamp ash is light wood while Goncao Alves with Ebony fretboard is heavy neck. Im concerned if the neck will be going down due to its weight attached to light ash body. Im afraid that the guitar won`t be well balanced weight wise.

When I asked the guys at warmoth about tone woods for necks I was told that the fret board wood plays a way bigger role in the tone then the neck wood.  I wrote go with ebony fret board personally.

I like how it sounds in the Strat quite a lot.  Definitely on the list of future purchases.  Thanks for doing a really useful couple of demos to show how it's not just a one trick pony.

funny enough, I`ve read some comments that it actually works the other way. I never had a chance to compare two identical guitars with identical pickups but different boards. And now I`m even more confused.

Hmm I've never really heard that.  There's said to be a difference between set necks, bolt on and such
