Nailbombs most brutal but versatile pickups
« on: February 01, 2014, 06:55:06 AM »
I've been using Nailbombs the alnico one on 2 of my guitars to be honest it is BRUTAL\m/ definitely can get that thrashy gallop picking tone and brutal heavy as f*** death metal type tone but the classic tones is undeniable authentic. i've played some ac dc  on it i just sound awesome. i tried aftermath but still prefer nailbomb.
you guys have any favourite bareknuckle ? pls share it.

I totally agree with that. I have CBomb bridge in Dean Caddy and as it`s my main guitar, I use it through vast spectrum of music styles, and like you mentioned above it`s really versatile. I can easily go from some brutal riffing to classic (as far as that pup can go) rock tones as well. Funny enough at some stage in my previous band I was even playing some Cream 'Sunshine of your love', with overdrive enganged on that pickup and it sounded great.

I don`t know if anyone agree with me, but I find CBomb really shining on overdrive/crunch in some more classic sounds like ACDC for example. It really roars and gives some kick into that overdriven tones. I really like it. It`s not PAF like classic tones yet but not too aggressive sound either. Something in between, nice roar.
Cleans on Cbomb are no too bad for ceramic pickup either.

But overall it`s more darkish pup and not extremely tight so I suppose in some lower tunings it can get lost at some point.
Dean Cadillac - Emerald (b), Cold Sweat (n),
Mayones Flame CS2000 - Miracle Man (b), Sinner (m), Aftermath (n)
Warmoth Custom Telecaster - Cold Sweat (b) VHII (n)
Warmoth Custom Tele - Miracle Man set

Just installed an A-Bomb in my Tokai Les Paul Standard. Possibly my fav BKP so far. Replacing a Black Dog here, but the A-Bomb is more balanced, with deeper bass and has a modern edge. I already have a Abraxas set in another LP, giving me the classic LP thing. Not sure if i will be playing much blues on this, but rock blues and upwards is where this excels.

I need another BKP set in the future (of course we all do) and the nailbomb is on the wishlist. I would love to here it in a bolt on alder guitar. Just not sure wether to go for the alnico or ceramic version.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

If you don't mind the aggressive nature of the Nailbomb, it is one kick-ass pickup for lots of different styles.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Yeh, slightly modern edge, but all my other BKP are from the vintage tone, so this was a great choice.

Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul

I didn't like the A-Bomb either but I'm sure it was simply in the wrong guitar. I'm tempted to try it in my V100 but I doubt I will as I have other plans that are appealing to me.

As for my personal favourite, it's impossible to say as it depends on my mood at the time. I think it's safe to say that it's one of the four I currently own.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

The three that jump out at me are the sinners, nailbomb bridge and the mule neck.  I like the black hawk but its a one trick pony

I really dont know, everytime i pickup a guitar with nailbomb in it , it has something in the mids that really makes sound special. im using a mahogany body guitar with maple neck.  really love them. cant express how much i love the nail bombs. i dont know any other pickups that have that type of sound. you guys have any favourites other than nailbomb ?
