Think of a rig for me..? (problems downsizing it)
« on: March 15, 2006, 01:35:21 PM »
Alright here's the rig for now:

Guitar => modded Vox V847 wah => Boss SD1 => POD 2.0 with floorboard => effects return of Laney AOR 30 combo.

The problems are:
The combo is way too big for my room and way too loud (all tube 30W... friggin' humongous amp!)
I have no money so I NEED to sell my amp, but I can't get more than around 150 pounds for it.
I LOVE tube so much I'm convinced a 15W tube amp would be great for me.

So... I'm a bit lost as to what to do right now. I can't seem to be able to sell the amp as it's hard as $%&# for me to ship it (student and poor...)

It's a bit of a vague thread I know, but I ran out of options that my demented mind could come up with. So I'd take any advise, any hint, it can only help from here.
I do have some money on the side but I NEED to sell my big amp first... It's what I do after that's the problem.
So what rig for a hardcore bedroom player? :D

haha, how small is your room? anything smaller than a combo and you wouldn't get as good a sound. You might as well be playing through one of those tiny cigarette packet amps

VERY Small... let me find a pic...

That's pretty much all the living space available to me. There's been another guitar in since then, and my amp has moved to the left of the desk.

well dunno if this is gonna help at all but this guy at my school today was playing this song for the music concert tonight... and his tone was LUSH... i was amazed... went to see what he was using- a roland cube-30.... and the guitar wasnt great- some washburn thingymajig.... however, my mates told me he was using a pedal of some kind but none of them saw what it was.... im gonna find out tonight and get me one- it was the msot gorgeous tone ive ever heard in the flesh- seriously.....

also- might not even be an effects pedal- it might have just been a footswitch in which case im DEFINATELY getting one of those amps..... anyway.... ill report back later.... dunno what relevance this has if any but basically the little roland or the pedal could be a good cheap option for you- (the roland was pretty small)....

No can do really.... A modelling amp to use a modeller on top? hehe... Nah. I couldn't control it with my feet either. If I go SS, it'd be standard SS and a GOOD solid state amp. I'm set as far as modelism is concerned :) Thanks!

If the size of the amp is the problem, and it's purely for bedroom/practice usage, why don't you just use some headphones plugged into the POD (assuming you're using the amp modelling in the POD)?

I do, but I also MUCH prefer the sound of it amplified, and having a wee combo is just way handier. What to do with my money anyway?  :D

well to me lc15 sounds perfect- small, compact, 15 watt all-valve combo, great valve sound.....

great valve sound.....

If he's using the modelling in the POD he's not going to be hearing much in the way of valve sound.  ;)

yes but if he's a dedicated bedroom player whats the point in 15W valves?

if hes a dedicated bedroom player whats the point in an amp at all? lol.... like muttley said if hes really a bedroom player in the complete sense of the phrase then headphones to the POD is the best option.... but the dude said he prefers it amplified and would prefer a small combo.....

maybe a 15 watt tranny then instead of tube?
