Any vol higher than conversation level is a big no-no.

Example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Mgcrsw0bFA

This was a  tiny 5 watt amp at half volume. Awful and useless... any idea how can I change the camera settings to stop the horrid digital clipping?

The camera is a Fujifilm Finepix J110w

I don't know about your camera but with mine I get similar poor results and I put it down to the fact that the emphais is on images and visuals.  I tend to think that an off camera mic is best- the built in ones seem, to me, to be a bit on the cheapo side. My opinion based on my uisage of digital cameras. In fact I am thinking of getting one of those digital cameras with decent audio-there is a Zoom one but a friedn has one and the video isn't that great but I beleive there is a new one coming out(it may already be out) that is well specified with both video and audio.

thanks for the response. Yeap... the camera is not bad at all for a camera (for a now 4 years old piece of equipment)  but I have to resign myself to the fact that I won't be able to make videos to illustrate 'tone'. I was getting a really good tone in the room but the recorded version is very poor with the nasty clipping going on. Very disappointed. My mobile is a Blackberry Curve so no joy there either... being poor is no fun.

Sounds like mic distortion to me, you can move it further away from the amp or turn the amp down, the only other solution is to get a better quality mic

yes, i was wondering this. doesn't your camera have some kind of audio input, so you can use another mic?

Nope. IT's designed to capture conversation level volumes.
