Cheapish Ebayss

Gonna get me a bass.  Had one a while ago, it was terrible!  A non-descript Ebay Jazz stylee thing by Raypierre, I think (or someone like that).  Sold it a a car boot for more than I should have...

So I'm looking on Ebay again.  Will probably spend £100-£200 on it.  I've seen some niceish Yamahas for around that, and I've always liked the quality per £ for them.

Anyone got any tips, thoughts, opinions etc? (This is the the BKP forum - of course there are opinions!!!)

Our bassplayer has Customshop Fenders, but he regularly takes a Squier Jazz Bass or a Farida Jazz Bass on stage. I must say they sound very mature for budgetbasses, especially his Farida. But he plays them in the shop before purchasing them. Buying on Ebay is always a bit of a gamble.

Yeah, with cheap stuff you can get lucky, but you really wanne see if you cant try it beforehand. I would highly prefer that over ebay stuff.

I saw a great old Ibanez Roadster bass on the bay just last week for £180, was tempted myself.

Yeah I need a bass for writing bass parts to my songs.  Thinking of getting something cheap, dependable, and decent-sounding.  A Squier generally ticks those boxes

A Squier classic vibe jazz bass would propably be good, but I don't know what they sell for at the bay. My dad bought a cheap used jazz bass clone produced by a Canadian company called Legend. It's very good value for the money.

I don't know anything about cheap basses really, but this prompted me to look at the current Squier range on the Fender website.  They have some nice stuff, don't they?  I was quite surprised!  :D

A bit more pricey than £100-£200 though, at that price I guess you're looking at the Affinity range.... which isn't so attractive.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

To be honest I wouldn't call £100-£200 'cheapish', that's straight cheap. In the Squier range I would stick with something like the classic vibe series.  The Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass is quite nice though, one of the local guys gigs with that and you'd never guess it was a cheap bass besides the Squier tag.
