Fender 68 Custom Deluxe - opinions?
« on: February 09, 2014, 10:04:54 PM »
Anyone owns the Fender 68 Custom Deluxe from the new Silverface reissue-line? Any of you played this amp?
I quite like the Deluxe, especially the Bassmanstack on channel two. Opinions?

I read there have a few issues. A loud pop when you turn off the standby-knob. Apparently that's a bit of Fender Deluxe-flaw. I heard the quality is inconsistent, like preamptubes that are in the wrong position. And of course the speaker out disengages the internal speaker. Bummer! I like to extend a combo with a 1x12 cab.

Don't worry, I'm no employee of Sweetw@ter. This is just one of the better vids on YT. Too much talking heads in the Fender Musical-clips.

Slightly related:I had a SF Vibrolux Reverb many moons ago. A transition job that was actually a BF amp inside a SF shell. I remember it having a great tremolo and it goes without saying it had a really wide clean sound (duh). Well, I did use a ZVEX metal pedal thing with it

The video sounds ok, I guess. I don't really dig that horrid strat tone, though. Bet it sounds better with an SG or Tele  8)

Those transition-models are collectible these days. You get a BF in SF-suit. The nice thing of these amps is that they break up at bearable volumes. In my current bandsituation I don't need 100 or even 50 watts.
The musicshop that has one is two hours driving.  :(  Some people might say, get a used vintage one and mod it. The reuissue already has these mods like the Bassman-tonestack. I don't know if they differ very much.

I'm not really familiar with Fender amps in any great detail but I do know I love the Tweed Bassman tone.

Those old Bassmans do sound great, but are rather heavy to carry. I would prefer a Deluxe into an extra cab.

I'd be very reluctant to buy a 50 ish year old amp unless i was a tech, for an original handwired clone i'd be off to ceriatone.
Can't comment on the 68 , but i've never been dissapointed with fender amps in general , don't forget 3 year guarantee with thomman.
