My Bands First Ever Studio Recording
« on: February 19, 2014, 06:42:39 AM »
So I don't post much but my band recorded our first ever full song in a studio a couple days ago. Wanted to get some opinions from people with no association with us so I figured I'd post it here. Especially since I used a BKP!

Two disclaimers: 1. Since this is my first time actually recording in a studio I was kinda nervous and didn't give an A+ performance
2. I'm not a lead player. My ideas for the solos kinda developed with each take and eventually got to about what I wanted. Still not well played but meh, I'd already been there for 5 hours.

My signal chain was '87 Jackson RR1 w/ A-pig in the bridge -> Marshall JCM800KK -> Vader 4x12
On the solos I used a LTD JH-600 with 81 in the neck and used a Boss GE-7 to boost the mids of the end solo for some more sustain (wish I'd thought of it for the 1st solo too).

Also opinions the rest of the band too of course.

I liked it; lot of potential there, and think of how much smoother it will go later on; don't worry about feeling like you have to explain away little mistakes. Unless it's an aggregious error, most ppl will never hear it anyway.

The vox are crazy loud, however. Guitars should ALWAYS be the loudest thing in rock or metal! :)

I really like that too, although I agree with Ben about the vocals.  It sounds a bit like he's standing beside you and the band are in the next room :)  love the backing vocals, and the guitar sound.  My opinion, I'd bring the band up louder around the vocals, and bring up the lead guitar to stand out a bit more.

I love the style of the song though.  And you say you're not a lead player?  sounds ok to me

Good stuff, I liked the solo and for a first session that's pretty damned good. Well done, keep it up!

Thanks for the comments. After listening to it more and listening to other music I can definitely hear the vocals are too loud compared to everything else. Either way we're happy with the song and learned a lot from the experience.
