Amp Help: Ampeg VT22 tube amp
« on: February 22, 2014, 08:52:47 PM »
Hey guys,

i've spotted an Ampeg Vt-22 tube head at a local store here. the seller hasn't yet decided on a price but I'm wondering what you guys can tell me about this amp

power tubes look to be 7027 which i don't know a thing about, can't find much info on the biasing procedure but i guess it involves changing resistors as amps of this age don't really have trimpots eh?

the tubes look rather exotic as well, i took a really quick look and haven't tried the thing, but mostly i'll probably have to do a Cap job and a retube just as a precaution.

i hear these things have great clean tones equally suited to guitar or bass. i'm still scouting the net for more info before i get a chance to try it but if guys have heard of this particular amp do tell!

I keep reading things about a VT-22 being the combo version of the V4 but to be honest the headshell looks factory made so I'm a bit confused here....

well, turns out it's a v4. needs a retube and a filter cap job. also need to look at the pots and pretty much the overall guts

in its current state this amp has stunning cleans with the perfect compression. brought it home today. weighs a freaking ton!!!

last call to anyone who knows anything about an ampeg v4, version 1 (68 to 72). i found a wealth of info on the web and schematics but firsthand experience is always the best :)

pics coming soon.
