difficult set up desision, help wanted please
« on: February 23, 2014, 04:07:08 PM »
Hey everyone.
Ive recently bought a new guitar, its basswood with a maple neck and rosewood fretbored, locking tremalo with a hsh pick up config. I play heavy rock and metal but some clean stuff too, looking for a versitile set up, ive been playing on a blackstar ht1r metal. Im looking for a sound like metallica, nightwish, fallout boy.

Thanks all

not sure exactly what to suggest, but with an amp like that, you dont NEED one of the more "metal" pickups. i'm gonna say maybe the holy diver though.

Holy Diver is a great all round tone master. Can do style either side of the '80s, although it has extra mids coupled with a middy basswood guitar and there will be plenty of midrange.

The mid scooped Cold Sweat might get you were you want and the RY is more modern version of the HD with extra high mids.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

I'd say Nailbomb or if the guitar is bassy a set of Rebel Yells.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

My vote goes for the Cold Sweat set because of the body wood. In the middle, do you want more vintage tone (Irish Tour) or better balance with humbuckers (Trilogy Suite)?
Black Dog (b), Abraxas (b), The Mule (n), Mississippi Queen (n), Trilogy Suite (m)

Had: Riff Raff 7 (b), Painkiller 8 (b)
