A couple Pig-90 questions
« on: March 16, 2006, 06:51:36 PM »
Hi everyone,

Since this is my first post, I have just a couple basic questions that I hope someone can help answer.

I am about to purchase a '92 Spearmint Les Paul Special and want to drop a Pig-90 in the bridge.  I am just wondering if BKP P90 type pickups come wax potted?  Or does BKP charge a small fee for this service?  My other question is for the shell.  I seen on this board a really cool looking Pig-90(soapbar) distressed casing.  I'm just wondering if there is an added charge for this as well?(Being a college student, you have to take EVERY financial decision into consideration    )

If anyone can help out this BKP virgin it would make my day!

Take care everyone!!!

Hi,
All of our pickups are potted. P90's are particularly prone to microphony so they are double potted. The distressed cover is an extra £10, just to cover the time it takes to distress it. If you want it just write Pig 90 wind+distressed cover in the special instructions box.

Hope this helps!

Say Indysmith,

How are you enjoying the Nailbomb?  I have a Custom Shop Schecter Avenger with a SD Custom in the bridge.  Its a really good pickup versatility wise, but later on down the line I want to get something a "little off the beaten track" for it.  I love checking out lesser known companies (but usually greater quality 8) ) and showing up all of my buds with different stuff.

38th Beatle,

No worries about letting you guys know.  I'm sure once I drop the Pig-90 in that Paul and plug it into my Boogie, I'll be screaming about the tone from my rooftop  :D  LOL!

Hey everyone,

Sorry to keep this thread going but I just read on the site about highering the action for the installation of a pig90?  Now I'm one for a fairly low action, so is there a way around this?  Thanks to anybody in advance for their input.

Could you point me in the direction of the post where you read this??

Nailbombs are really versatile, they'll give your custom a good run for it's money, my guess is it'll sound like you've taken the blanket off from you speaker cab! They have lots of harmonics and a great grind and clarity at th same time!

cheers!

Dude the Nailbomb is INCREDIBLE - it will smoke your SD Custom completely - it is, again, very versatile, with PLENTY of power, but retaining the openess and organic sound of all BKPs at the same time, allowing awesome clarity - it is THE pickup for straight-ahead hot rock.

Not sure about the height thing on a Pig90................it should be fine to set up as per your usual action. It's the wind that's special..............magnets are AV as in the BKP92.

Hi Hayden,

It wasbe me in this thread:

http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2671&highlight=pig90

When I got my p-90 it was in an Epiphone Casino cover and had a curved base.  When I tried to fit it into the LP junior I had to widen the route a bit and straighten the tabs.  However, I believe mine was the first Pig-90 and so if you are now using the flat bottom metal covers for the solid bodies, there should be no problem (I eventually changed the cover for one of the flat ones to get the bridge back down).  The Pig-90 itself isn't a problem, once there is a flat bottom cover on it.  Mine fit great then.

Cheers
Phil

Thanks for everyone's input on this subject.  I just never had a guitar with P90's before, but I am soooooo stoked to get a hold of this thing.

HJM, indysmith,

I have heard great things about the Nailbomb and it is now really being taken into consideration for the Avenger.

Thanks again to everyone and well..... Cheers!
