Anyone have experience of Cold Sweats in a Flying V?

Hey guys.

I have a Faded Flying V that currently has a Riff Raff/Mississippi Queen pair in it but a NGD purchase may be stealing those away, so I'm thinking what to put in my V in their place.

I've always been curious of the Cold Sweat and Emerald sets so am thinking of those, but just thought I'd ask incase anyone has tried any of these pickup combos before in this type of guitar.

I mainly play 70s and 80s Rock and use modified Marshall/SLO type amps and tones.

Cold sweat set is awesome for early 80s vibe (you know me & my 80s obsessions Craig).
Have had them in a few Vs now and never been disappointed.
Work well as a pair - neck Pickup is really tasty, whilst the bridge rocks out as you'd expect.

I currently have a Cold Sweat in a single humbucker Ash bodied Strat and really like how crunchy it can get, I just wasn't sure if they'd work in a V or not as most people only seem to comment on the neck version.

I'm also considering changing out the RYs in my Tokai Love Rock Custom, and was thinking of Cold Sweats for that too, so I really don't know which way to go with this  :?

My NGD I mentioned above is an SG, so now you've completely opened up the playing field!  :lol:

Well, they definitely have an '80s tone, not EMG-ish at all, but they can also do '70s stuff, I guess the main '70s stuff that comes to mind is Judas Priest.  Not especially Sabbathy, which is what a lot of people get SGs for.  A Warpig set would be better for that (or Pig'90 if you had a P-90 model), as I got good Masters of Reality tones from my Warpig set in my Explorer (even though I think that guitar is too dark overall for those).

Compared to a Les Paul with Cold Sweats I guess it has less scoop (the mid hump of the SG fills that out) and is more 'focused' in the typical SG way.

My friend with an Emerald-equipped Les Paul prefers my Cold Sweat SG over his guitar, but then again he is a fan of Judas Priest, Saxon, etc.

I find that it can do a good job of most metal made in the '80s that used hotter pickups like the Dirty Fingers or the X2.  It might not be exact but with a good tone pot you will get close. I rewired my SG with a '50s style harness, matched 500K CTS pots, 0.022uf PIO caps.

Basically I think the guitar is perfect for anything from Judas Priest to Celtic Frost.

I use my Nailbomb Explorer and Stockholm SG Junior for more hardcore/crossover '80s stuff.

I would put the RYs in the V, put the set from the V in the Tokai, and put Cold Sweats in the SG

The CS bridge loves middy guitars - it really opened up the middy guitar it's now in. Great 80s hard rock tone there.

I actually have a CS neck in a Charvel San Dimas Style 1 and I usually play Iron Maiden.
I supposed CS could be the right pick up for the Dave Murray neck lead sound, but I was disappointed...
I mean CS doesn't have that typical Murray warm, liquid sound that I was looking for  :(
Maybe I'd better replacing with a more PAF-style pick up... big doubt!!!

Now also thinking of trying a pair of NBs in it that I'm taking out of my Ibanez, anyone tried NBs in a V?
