What about a second hand Charvel model 4 or model 6 (thru neck) there are some bargains out there and the build is better than a lot of new guitars.

nah, i wouldn't, that's one of the newer korean ones. I have one of the strikers. For the price I paid, it's actually really good. The trem isn't bad for a licensed one, but it's still nowhere near as good as one of the "good" ones that I listed, and the studs are the wrong size for a switch. You'd probably want to change the pickups too (those quad-rails are good for chugga-chugga, but not much else)- at the end of the day, the cost of those upgrades would buy you a guitar that you wouldn't have to upgrade (at least, not much).

yeah, but add in the cost of a good floyd rose (£130+), drilling out the studs, and new pickups (at least £100+), and you could get a washburn x40 pro (£379) with a schaller trem and duncan pickups (not as good as BK's, but better than those kramer ones, and good enough to keep till you can afford BK's) for less.

believe me, i'm not trying act like i'm smarter than everyone else (i'm not, i don't have a clue about most gear lol), it's just that i've found out all this stuff about super-strats the hard way (i.e. the expensive way), and I don't want you guys to have to go through what I have, lol.

At the minute i have two super strats with cr@p trems and the wrong size studs, and a gotoh trem, and i'm trying to figure out how the hell i'm going to get it drilled, lol. And i was damn lucky that at least the cavity is the right size.
