So excited to finally have all these beauties put together!!

RGA121 w/ Bare Knuckle Holydiver set.

RGD2127z w/ Bare Knuckle Black Hawk set.  Alnico bridge.

RG2228m w/ Bare Knuckle Cold Sweat bridge & Riff Raff bridge in the neck position.

This is at least the third set of pickups I've had in each guitar.  The RGA came with SD Black Winters, which sounded pretty good, though a little over-saturated & not enough chord clarity.  The RGD came with SD Blackouts, which were immediately pulled for a DActivator/Air Norton combo.  Not bad but not great.  Pulled them for a set of Aftermaths.  This was a step backward, IMO.  Pulled those for a LACE Alumitone/Deathbucker set.  They sounded okay, but the bottom was too loose/boomy & I hated the way they looked.  The RG came with the typical EMG 808's, which were mushy, boomy nonsense.  Pulled them in favor of my DActivator 8 set I had from my old guitar.  They sounded alright, but the 8th string wasn't defined enough & everything was a bit too saturated.  Pulled those & installed a Miracle Man in the bridge for a while.  Sounded WAY better than anything else I'd tried yet, but I thought the clarity could be a bit better still.

So now, we have the current pairings:

Holydivers in RGA - Never leaving this guitar.  A match made in versatile heavy music heaven.  I was expecting them to sound much tamer than they do & am still pleasantly surprised whenever I play this guitar!  I -may- still try an Emerald in the neck just to see what all the fuss is over but only if I come across one at a fantastic price.

Black Hawks in RGD - These are SO CLOSE to being the match I'm looking for in this guitar but I still think that even with the alnico bridge magnet, the high strings are just a tad too sharp.  Also, the tightness of the lower strings when palm muting isn't as crisp as I was expecting.  If I get tired of these I'm going for a set of Juggernauts.

Cold Sweat / Riff Raff in RG - Again, these are very close but not quite ideal, I don't think.  The Cold sweat is much clearer & articulate than the Miracle Man, but at the expense of aggression and harmonics.  I very much want to try a Painkiller bridge in this guitar.  Surprisingly, the Riff Raff bridge in the neck position sounds fantastic!  Sure the pole spacing is a tad too wide but I'm probably the only one that would ever notice!

Very nice!  I've always loved Ibanez guitars, even though I could never see myself buying one.  The Prestige series came close.

Very nice collection you have there. I'm not an Ibby guy myself (must be the cheap RG I once owned that has turned me away), but these axes looks good.

Cool trio!

I think maybe the RiffRaff bridge would work for you in the 8-string, and after all you already have the neck model.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII

Hey you sure did a good job cleaning my 8 string pickups :) sad you didn't get on with the CS though. it's tight and articulate but as you say a bit bland.

why don't you try the RR bridge in the bridge? and the CS wired in parallel in the neck, you might be surprised, i tried that combo but it truly didn't work in my schecter blackjack ATX, a black dog resides there now to make it purr
My BK's:
Black Dog8-Riff Raff8 / Black Dog7-Mule7
C-Bomb Set / Blackhawk Bridge
Holydiver Set/ BG50 Set

Actually, if you re-read my post I do have the Riff Raff bridge, it's just installed in the neck position.  I just ordered some new brushed black aluminum pickup rings for the 2228, when they come in I'll try throwing the RR in the bridge position & see what's up.  I'm admittedly looking to play djent / prog metal stuff with this guitar, so I'm thinking the RR will be a bit under-powered.  Thoughts?

Haha, hey, man!  Yeah, they were admittedly tougher to clean up than I'd anticipated.  Those poles were RUSTY but were no match for a carefully handled dremel wire wheel.  The bobbins suffered some small scr@pes here & there but no big deal.  And the pole screws I had from an old set of Aftermaths threaded right in!  What did you think of the RR in the bridge?  While I don't think the CS will be a permanent resident in this guitar, it got me to realize how much the Miracle Man I had before wasn't what I was looking for!  Very…..fuzzy compared to the CS.  I need something in the middle, output-wise, but with more mids.  Maybe a Juggernaut but they're a million dollars which is annoying

I'd say just swap the pickups around and try it.

i loved the RR bridge but it was a bit too clear for that particular guitar, the black dog fixed that, so it's worth a try.

do adjust the gain on your amp though. i use a MXR clean boost in the beginning of my chain to compensate for the differences in output.
