New Pickups Day!
« on: July 12, 2014, 12:41:53 PM »
Yes, more BKP goodness!!!

I actually fitted these a few weeks ago (when I made the clip), but I didn't want to brag about it until I got the guitar back from the wonderful gents over at Feline Guitars - I'd fitted a new neck to the guitar and while OK, it needed the extra 10% that I need a pro to do for me (finishing the frets and a decent setup).

The guitar is a Charvel ST Custom, and long time lurkers might recognise it.  I've had it from new, bought it in the late 1980's, and from stock it's had Nailbombs, Trilogy, Bulldog Pickups and now....

VHII's!

And they are stunning.  Absolutely perfect for what I want.  I liked the NBs in this guitar, but they were a little too modern for my tastes.  The VHII's absolutley growl!  They're so old school it's unreal.  But the saturate nicely (well - not nicely, if you see what I mean).

Brilliant, brilliant pickups.

This clip was before the neck was sorted, so the guitar is a little hard to play.  But I think that the sound comes across well.

Love my VH2 bridge :)

I agree they sound so old school its unreal.. like a sort of Fendery-PAF. And they have a load of push too!

As usual with clips, I never know how much of what I'm hearing is the pickups and how much is.... everything else.

But they sound good.  And versatile!  Some really nice clean tones, too.  Is it a straight three-way switch with no coil splits or anything?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

Man, I love the VHII. Next to the Cold Sweat, definitely my favourite for mid-crunch rock n metal.

It's a superswitch - I'd wired it to (in theory) have inner/outer coils in positions 2 and 4, but being me I @rsed it up and I seem to have managed to get outer/inner, inner/outer - which basically sounds the same!!!  Nevermind - I'll tweak that at a later date.  Bottom line is there are 4 very different and brilliant sounds!

What I love about VHII's that you can go from clean to massive crunch and everything in between with the volumepot. They're bright, but not annonying, just present. I think gwEm hits the nail on the head: a Fendery-PAF. Mine is btw sits in a ash Fender HSS strat.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
