looking for guidance. 2 guitars.
« on: July 16, 2014, 12:32:15 AM »
guitar one. alder strat rosewood board maple neck. looking to do an SSS design. i definitely want to be on the more modern side of things. so i'm between the trilogies and the sinners. now, i've used the trilogy neck and mid before but since i use the bridge pickups mostly in my playing, this doesnt help that much. i feel like the sinners MIGHT be the way to go but i feel like they wont really sound like a strat. Tim said they have more of a P90 vibe. i want it to sound like a strat but hot and ballsy. i want it to still be able to handle some chug every now and then in the rhythms.

guitar two. alder strat. BARITONE warmoth maple neck. maple board. 28 5/8s scale i believe. single bridge pickup. thats it. i want something heavy. something on the tighter side. more smooth than raw. so unlike the c-bomb which was the opposite of smooth. i suggested the blackhawk to tim. i've always wanted to try one. he said it could work depending on the desired tone but it could come off as a bit bright. he also suggested alnico over ceramic if i did go with the blackhawk. i could put a juggernaut in there because i will have an extra one soon but i'd like to try something a little different. i've also wanted to try the warpig in some aspect.

any help is greatly appreciated. thanks guys!

I'm thinking a Sinner for the strat and a Miracle Man for the other one.

I don't think anything less than a Sinner for chugs.  Sorry

A Sinner in the bridge with a Trilogy Suite for the neck and middle would make a great set and give you some versatility. For the other one, I'd agree that a Miracle Man would be a good choice. A Holydiver might be another option if you want alnico.

I am, but I am a little surprised that Tim suggested the Cold Sweat if he thinks the Black Hawk would be too bright.  The Cold Sweat is a fairly bright pickup in my mahogany SG, not overly bright, but with the different woods it might be.

With the lower frequencies of the baritone it could be fine, but I'm just a little surprised that the BH is brighter.

A Cold Sweat or Miracle Man though were the two pickups that came to mind immediately; I mainly suggested the MM because Tim said the BH might be too bright.

My strat with sinners sounds very much like a strat on cleans better than the stock fender pickups and the Di Marzios I had but with overdrive it does take on a different character completely.

I definitely would not put an alnico black hawk in my fender strat however I couldnt comment on a baritone strat didnt even know you could get them??  I did however like it in my ESP George Lynch Signature but thats got a lot more wood than a fender strat so is more muscular sounding any way.

I bought a warmoth baritone conversion neck to put on a strat body I bought.  I decided that I'm going to try my juggernaut in there first.  I love it in my other strat.  I bought a second jug because I stupidly got the wrong color poles in my other one and it just bothers me.  I have a feeling it'll work really well.
