Nailing some tones

Hello people . Since my other post was lost i decided to rewrite it . The idea is to get as close as the tone you're hearing  . I play an Epiphone LP ( mahogany body with maple top and mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard ) . The post will stay open for those who would like to nail some tones and doesn't know where to start .

What made you want to swap the c-bomb in your les paul?

Sorry that I reply so late but i was into the woods for the last 5 days . No internet there  haha . :)

    Nailbomb was my first thought but I always like to ask those with more experience than me . Thanks again !!

      oh , and Littlered ....after a LOT of research I decided to go with the Rebel Yell bridge / Emerald neck( they seem to fit my style best) , but goodluck with your selling :)

what cover does that VHII neck have?

And getting back to CBomb, I have one in similar guitar and would agree with what was said above. I would also add that CBomb might be a little bit more aggressive and not as quite tight as the tone from Manowar what you`re after.

both were gold covered. but i actually just sold the VHII. still looking for the cbomb to sell.

What made you want to swap the c-bomb in your les paul?

nothing against the cbomb at all. i just wasnt liking the les paul as much as i'd hoped and the only way i could get the les paul to sell for a reasonable price was to take out the bare knuckle pickups. so i sold the guitar pickupless and had to try and sell the pickups seperately. although the cbomb was a little more hairy than i'd hoped

it was very open. i like my neck pickups better for "widdly doos" and such. definitely more vintage character than modern. and i just prefer more power for the neck pup. my favorite has definitely been the rebel yell

So basically it wasn`t keeping up with hi-gain?
"widdly doos"? That`s some description... being more precise???

lol i dont know. it did fine with high gain but not like the modern, tighter stuff. if you like big fluid 80s style solos on the neck i dont think this would be my first choice. but if you liked doing ambiant or other clean stuff with neck pups then i'd definitely say the vhII would work great.

This is a cool idea for a thread so I'm going to throw out a couple of ideas just for fun.

1) Bad Religion.  Think 'Process of Belief' although their buzz saw guitar sound is pretty consistent.

2) Ola Englund.  Just cuz.  Somehow his monstrous tone is really consistent in spite of the piles of different gear he plays.  (This leads me to conclude that micing / recording is a really important part of the process)

3)  Cream era Clapton.  His lead tone is epic!

To be honest, that was my initial thought about VHII neck that it might be a bit 'grainy' and the first choose for massive fluid leads, but once I`ve read that Jugg neck apparently was based on VHII neck, I started wondering how it sounds in reality.

Yes, based on demo clips, cleans on VHII neck are superb, but the fact that this pickup is not capable of huge soling things put me off a bit.
