Id try moving the pickup closer to the strings first and then also buying a boost if needed but yeah boosted bkp's still sound as clear as a bright sunny day they dont mud!
Having used nailbombs, painkillers, black hawks compared to emg's and duncans its not like bkp's are weak in comparison......not at all but they have less compression and built in gain and more clarity. The painkiller for example to my ears is some where between an emg 81 and a distortion with its own grind flavour going on. The duncan distortion may have ever so slightly more bottom end but its less clear by a fair too.
BKP has a very different flavour going on to other pickup makers so it can be a 'shock' but dont id stick with it for a while. If after a while you genuinely prefer duncans fair play its down to taste but dont do any thing too quick!
Personally ive always been a fan on bkp's and emg active pickups and I wouldnt use any thing else.
