It will be used for open tuning stuff with no particular style. Everything from clean to distorted.

Basswood guitars typically gel nicely with pickups like the cold sweat, because they usually are already a bit 'middy'.
Exactly what do you mean by muddy? No string separation or does it sound dark?

The muddyness was actually a set up issue which I have now sorted. Its a very bright guitar now. There is still a little bit of a subtle fizz, which, after the truss has settled I will re assess. It needs playing in as well.
