NGD. whoop!
« on: August 07, 2014, 11:08:44 AM »
I am looking forward to modding this up! The jem505 is like a "clean slate" jem. All of the quality of a made in japan ibanez and all the quality components,  but none of the vai signature ostentation.

I got it secondhand dirt cheap yesterday, this guitar has never been used!. Its immaculate.  I set it up last night.  Cleaned it up, replaced the rusty strings, Removed the nut shims, tweaked the truss rod etc

I had my heart set on juggs for this but now I have played it its natural sound is rather muddy, so now I'm not sure.  What do you guys think?

Unfortunately the locking screws are missing from my trem mount posts.  Where can I get replacements or even better the old design of post (which I prefer)

Niiiice man, congrats. There is a certain charm about the jems. Was not even aware they did a "clean slate" version like this, but now I want one too! Or a clean slate universe...

Just gotta swap those pick ups, pick guard,  pot knobs and maybe trem block.

I do love the Vai swirly paint finish but not so many of the others. This version looks great though and gets it away from feeling too much like a signature guitar which many find off-putting. Lovely looking guitar.

Nice :D

Ibanez rules probably has the studs. Might even be worth checking thomann, or even places like wd music, allparts, axesrus etc. just in case they have them.

That lower cutaway is really pointy - you could have someone's eye out with that.

In those times this was something new, with the monkey grip and the antracite hardware. You could rob a bank with that thing, a fellowmusican told me. Actually it was a very good guitar, with the right amp. Not so good on vintage amps. I liked the Dimarzio Paf Pro's though.

I once travelled on the Tube with a Steinberger copy in a gigbag.  I was really worried that someone would think I was carrying a rifle and call the police or something....

Just looking at the Jem 505, is it missing the Ibanez logo on the headstock?  Or is it just a trick of the light?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

Cool guitar!

As for the trem posts. Modern Ibanez guitar don't come with them, I had a 2004 Ibanez RG years ago that I eventually fitted with locking trem posts which made a big improvement. you can still find locking trem posts on ebay.

Thanks man.

They do. There were some years where they didn't come factory installed and instead came in a bag to be fitted by either the retailer or buyer. Given the shoddy nature of most retail attitudes I would hazard they were not fitted in most cases.

I was just going to say. My RG premium came with them in a bag in the hardcase that it came with.

On basswood I would aim for something a bit more scooped. What do you play?
