nothing really wrong with it, but ive got two amps which take up too much space. also, the crate is supposed to be for low volumes/home use and the laney for band use.... but we're always at such low volumes now because of complaining neighbours that it makes no difference between the laney and the crate really lol.... so i figured (with a little advice from nick) that the wisest thing to do would be sell them both to get just the one amp which could be used for when i start gigging.... and for really quiet- i.e silent use, i can use my zoom through headphones or stereo amp and speakers.......

so when i sell the two amps, im hoping to then sell my ipod and some crummy pedals (well actually one of them is really quite good- vox clyde mccoy wah) and have enough for an engl (cheap one) you can get the thunder combos for 500 in some places....

I have a Screamer Top. Think it's good value for money, but a matter of taste, there are MANY amps in that price range that do a great job. What I like about the screamer is that it sounds very good at minimal Volume. Funny thing is that the UniValve (which only has one valve class A) only sounds good when turned up at least half - so I end up playing the big amp at the low volumes and vice versa.

I think the screamer is basically the same as the thunder, just a few extras missing.

Go to the shop and try and compare, nothing beats trying...

ok the killer question now.... a tricky, specific one too, what would sound better for classic-hard rockmaybe dabbling in a lil bit 'o metal:

engl thunder 50 combo (WITHOUT attenuator)

OR

laney lc30 (WITH attenuator- hotplate probably).

and it pretty much has to be the thunder 50 COMBO no other, dearer engl's - thats my limit price wise.

anyone tried both?

I can beat that, I've tried neither. :lol:

is there any way you can crank your laney, even just once, to see what it sounds like? it'll not sound any better than that with an attenuator (probably slightly not as good).

Then just try a thunder, and see which is better.
