We got a completion date on our first house purchase!
« on: August 23, 2014, 09:17:26 AM »
This process has been a lot smoother than I expected. It all went through in just over a month.

We had some initial issues with TSB as they credit checked me 9 times using two different names even though they had all the correct info which resulted in it being declined.

After that we went to Yorkshire bank and explained the situation and everything was clear sailing from there on.

So next Friday we get to go collect the keys and I can start setting up my guitar room which is the biggest room in the house (VICTORY!)

I maintain that buying a place was the most stressful thing I've done (it was not smooth sailing in my case) so I'm pleased to hear that it's gone well for you. Fingers crossed it's a coast to the finish for you now and you get settled in quickly. Congratulations.

I feel for you. The first week of waiting around for TSB whilst they messed things up yet reassured us that everything was all ok while they got me a fraud flag by credit checking me with a name that Has nothing to do with me was awful.

I read up on things before starting the whole process and read many horror stories of things that can go wrong.

Thanks guys. Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Things have now gone into panicstations as we aren't as packed as we thought we were....

Haha! That's what we did as well...

We were packing in a leisurely and organised fashion for some weeks. We thought it was all under control... and then a day or two before the move it was suddenly WTF?!?!?! (Where's those extra boxes? What extra boxes? You've used all the packing tape?!?!?... Er, why is this room still not touched? Ummm.. Why have you unpacked all those boxes again? Whaddya mean we're taking the garden with us?)

Actually, it turned out fine... I guess it will for you guys, too

Good luck

I haven't moved house for nearly 25 years so it's hard to remember what it was like (except that the place was a lot less cluttered...  :undecided: ), but I hope everything goes well Tony.

From what I've been hearing on the news it sounds a nightmare getting onto the property ladder nowadays.

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

When you get packed, just make sure you know where your bed linen, some mugs, the kettle, and the bottle opener are and unpack them first at the other end. Everything else can wait in boxes if necessary. :)

This is exactly what we did!

Also the coffee machine was one of the first things unpacked.

The first part of the experience with TSB was a nightmare. But as soon as we spoke to the people at Yorkshire everything just flew through. We managed to get the seller down to £96k too which was a nice bonus only £4k off but if you don't ask....

And yes everythings done now. Once the bulk of the unpacking was done I got set on the guitar room. Here's a photo of the first time I got to plug in (today)

There's also a hint at a potential NGD thrown in but i'll hold off on that one until it's definite.

Congrats :D I moved into my first house in February and it was really stressful despite it being a relatively straightforward move! Getting the guitar room set up how you want it is the most satisfying :)
