new caps on budget

Hey folks :) I bought an Emerald neck and a Rebel yell for my Rpiphone LP . They still haven't arrived but they will . My funds we're gone long before choosing the caps . On a last minute decision I bought some Orange Drop because I wanna change the stinky stock ones :) . I will invest in better electronics once I have the cash ...until then , I did a good deal or i just wasted some money ????

Orange drops will be an improvement.

Usually caps don't cost much.

For example, the caps I have in my SG Junior (0.033 uF (33 nF), 100V, Metallized Polyester Film Capacitors K73-24V.NOS) you can buy on ebay for 10c each if you want to buy in bulk (50 for $5).

The orange drops will be fine - in fact you may feel no need to upgrade any further.
I do like the Jensen ones, but would be very happy with a guitar with Orange Drops.

The biggest favour you can do yourself is revert to 50s wiring - that will open up the tone a bit.

 About the 50's wiring... I am a little bit concerned that the tone may be too bright (for the rebel yell ) or too open .For what I read this type of wiring adds a little brightness . But please correct me if I'm wrong . I still have a lot to learn :)

I have '50s wiring and modern wiring on my guitars, all new looms made from similar components.

I do think the '50s wiring sounds brighter.  On the guitar I have that I was most worried about being shrill in the highs (my Stockholm equipped SG Junior) I ordered modern wiring with a 0.033uf cap and a treble bleed.  Worked out well.

If you are worried I would use modern wiring.  The main advantage of '50s wiring is the characteristics when you back the volume off a bit, but if you are like me and leave you volume full up on the guitar and adjust it while playing using a volume pedal (like my Morley Little Alligator) you won't find any benefit.

The more present and brash sound of 50s wiring is awesome.  My LP is wired that way while the LG has some wiring scheme I found on the internet.  It's a 3 way switch with a push pull pot.

The Redline III has one volume knob straight to the output jack so that there isn't a huge amount of top end bleed happening.  It would be tempting to install a blower switch at some point but I don't think there's much between the pickups and the output jack right now anyhow.

The value of the caps can really change how a pickup sounds (I'm not sure about brands making a big difference).  I have an Agile LP copy with a BG Hellabucker in the bridge that was way too muddy until I had my tech pop some Orange caps from GFS to replace the ceramic caps.  It really opened things up and saved me from having to buy a new pickup.

That's what I did with the SG Junior.  Installed it with the stock Gibson harness and then worked out what I wanted to change, then had a new harness made to address those issues.
