Installing Juggs in an RG721RW
« on: September 05, 2014, 09:21:08 AM »
Hi guys :)

So I recently acquired one of these beauties, http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eg_page14.php?year=2014&area_id=3&cat_id=1&series_id=1&data_id=54&color=CL01,

bought it from a friend in almost mint condition for less than 500USD. I ordered a set of Juggs with tyger cover and bulb etch for it, they arrive in 2 weeks, and I was wondering if there would be anything else I need? Are the sock knobs and pots good enough for BKPs?

I'm a total idiot when it comes to these technical things, so if someone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it :)

Personally I would just fit them with the stock wiring and see what it sounds like.

If there's something about the sound that you don't like, come back and talk to us about how you'd like it to change (e.g., brighter, clearer, darker, whatever) and we can give you some advice then.  Best thing is to pop the pups in first to give you a baseline.  If you want a complete new harness you could ask a tech to build one for you once you've worked out what components you'd like, or you could try doing it yourself if you are good with a soldering iron

You might have to rout the pickup cavities to make your pickups fit.

ibanez tend not to rout out pockets for pickup legs on their direct mount guitars due to fitting dog eared puckups rather than legged puckups.

This may not be the case with the 721 but eith my 7621 and my 1527 i had to rout pockets fir legs, channels for pole screws and wiring as the shallow, flat bottomed stock pockets wouldnt take normal ppickups (i was fitting sd Nazgul/sentient).

Also, depending on the size of the direct mount screws you might have to drill out the screw holes on your BKPs to fit. Or fill the existing direct mount holes and buy specifically sized wood screws to replace them. When fitting Nailbombs to my direct Mount Jackson RR I had to fit pickup rings instead.

Of course the awesome guys at BKP might be able to mod ypur pickups for direct mounting if you send them the screw dimensions.
