Would miracle man set be a good fit for my Gibson SG standard
« on: September 12, 2014, 11:57:05 AM »
Hey am contemplating on getting a calibrated miracle man set for my SG. Right now it has a bare knuckle riff raff in bridge, and stock neck pickup. I am looking for zakk wyldes tone from no rest for the wicked, Down's tone from the album Nola, Dimebags pantera tone, and Zakks black label society tone. Tim's demo is with a les Paul and I'm assuming he made the pickup for the les Paul. Does anybody know how the SG would sound. I want it to stay tight like in black label society's bleed for me, and I want pinch harmonics to jump out on low E string like on ozzy's perry mason, and no more tears.

Yeah, your SG will be able to handle the Miracle Man and all the Zakk Wylde Tone you throw at it, you may want to check the value of your pots and upgrade to 550k.  The Miracle Man is tight in the bass, with a bright cut in the highs and well suited to the Mahogany of an SG.

Miracle Man set is supposed to be brilliant in the SG.

I have a Cold Sweat set in mine and I can see how the MM - which is basically it's big brother in many ways - could be really awesome.  It should also suit all the stuff you want to play.  People say the CS is closer to Dimebag but I think you could probably get  a lot of the CS tone by turning the volume down slightly.

the main differences between the MM and  CS in that type of tone is mostly the leads and pinch harmonics, rather than rhythm tone
the miracle man has a more modern and focused lead tone and very fat pinch harmonics, definitely more like Zakk's
the cold sweat has a sharper and more 80's/early 90's sort of lead tone, like on Vulgar Display of Power or King's X Dogman album, and the pinch harmonics are more high pitched (think The Great Southern Trendkill ending riff)
I believe the ceramic nailbomb should sit right in the middle of those, but I only had the alnico version
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Ok so I just pulled the trigger on the Miracle Man set for my Gibson Sg Standard 2012. I just got the braided 2 conductor wire because I don't do any splitting. I was just wondering if I should change my capacitors, and if so exactly what size, and brand is recommended? I have stock 500 pots too, and was wondering what the purpose is for switching to the 550 pots that bare knuckle recommends? Any help would be appreciated.

550K is brighter.

Also, BKP do not sell 500K pots ...

When I ordered a custom harness here for my Explorer, the guy who makes them (Tim Mason) picked out the brightest pots and matched them to one another.  There is a tolerance on pots.  I think my pots are pretty close to 550K
