mule bridge pup in neck slot? and bridge pup to match ?

Hey team.  I recently picked up a telecaster that is all mahogany with a maple cap.  I'll also be taking out the mule bridge pickup from my 335 to replace with 10th anniversary pickup.  I want a hot bridge pickup for my Tele but I figure I can try out the mule bridge pup in the neck slot.  Anyone try this? Also I'm trying to figure out what bridge pickup to use.  (Humbucker) I loved the juggernaut when I had it in my les Paul that had the same woods.  I also hear the painkiller does great in these woods too.  What about the holy diver?  I was thinking of trying the Seymour jb anyway but I hear the holy diver would kick it's butt.  Does the holy diver do well in that set up?  Thanks guys!

I liked the painkiller but as far as im concerned its 'just' a metal pickup as its so abrasive and angry.  In the right guitar its awesome but its judas priest painkiller tone and beyond not the painkiller tone and mellower IMO.

Yeah that's what I was assumin with the PK. And it seems like the HD is better suited for super strats.  So the jug may be the way to go.  Its definitely my favorite pickup and I think it would match the mule bridge pickup pretty well

I think so.

If you think the nailbomb is too aggressive/abrasive the painkiller takes it that step further IMO.  In my les paul custom it worked well but there wasnt any veratility outside of 'extreme metal' so much so I felt as if I might as well go all the way and get an emg 81!  To my ears the painkiller is some where in between a duncan distortion and an emg 81 and thats a good thing for those of us who like OTT metal.

I havent got that much experience with the HD its a bit smooth in past experience for me but I think it should work in strats and les pauls.  The JB works in strats and les pauls well and and  I've noticed a lot of pro's who have used BKP's have also used HD's in mahogony guitars like explorers and les pauls so I wouldnt let any thing put you off giving it a go.

Personally I'd love to have a PK-loaded SG for hardcore and metal, I think it would be much more interesting than an EMG guitar, but yeah I tend to think that my CS loaded SG is better for the earlier, non-thrashy Judas Priest material.

I'm sure I remember you saying you didnt like your nailbomb in your sg because it was too harsh and middy so wouldnt the painkiller be even worse?  Thats what id assume any way.

My train of thought is hard to explain.  I was happy with the painkiller but I was getting some weird background noise with my amp and thought seeing as I found the painkiller so extreme I might as well go and get an emg 81 and get more tightness, output, consistency and noise reduction.  The painkiller has it own thing going on though like I say it occupies a middle ground between the distortion and emg 81 with the bkp clarity so it is really really cool.

Since I got a better overdrive pedal that works better with my amp there probably wasnt any need for actives but you live and learn and I dont have any regrets.

The A-Bomb was very abrasive in my SG.  I liked it for some things, and miss it sometimes.  Apparently in an SG the PK is a little less so, although still very aggressive.  It's not an issue of the pickup per se but rather the interaction between pickup and guitar.  The predominant frequencies of the NB are around the same as those of my SG, so it amplified them and with the hairiness on top of that it had a chainsaw quality.

I liked it for some things but thought it wasn't very versatile.

I'm not suggesting that the PK would be versatile in an SG.  I'm just saying that I'd like one for playing very aggressive stuff.

True enough.  With an sg and a painkillier who you struggle to get heard thats for sure!

Thought you mind find it interesting that I asked Tim a little while ago about which pickups would be best to replace the standard pickups in a Dimebag signature guitar, to get closest to Dimebag's sound (for my son as he's a huge Pantera fan), and Tim suggested a Mule bridge pickup in the neck position, paired with a Miracle man in the bridge.

i think i figured out what i'm going to do. i have a miracle man bridge pickup that i was originally planning to put in an ash strat with a maple neck, although i had a feeling it wouldnt sit that great in there. but i'm going to try it in the tele with the mule bridge in the neck slot and see what happens. very interesting about the dimebag comment above since its the same pickup combo. i was debating it for a little while. i was hoping to have more of a "jack of all trades" when it came to this tele but i think this'll work for the time being. i can always change it if i choose to. and i'll buy my long overdue crawler bridge and put that in the strat.
