Pickups for Epi Black Beauty 3
« on: October 05, 2014, 11:26:54 PM »
Hi just signed up and looking for a bit of advice:
I Recently bought a second hand Black Beauty 3, gorgeous looking guitar although a bit on heavy side.
Looking to swap out the pups, I have a few to hand from previous swaps and one newly bought.
Bare Knuckle Riff Raff bridge 8.2K
Suhr Aldridge bridge 17.5K
Tesla Plasma 2 Neck 16.7K
dragon Mountain set 10.14K Bridge 8.85K Neck
Do I need to follow convention and have highest ouput on Bridge or put best rated pups in highest order from bridge to neck?
Any help appreciated.

Anyone used Dragon Mountain pups?
Or should I save and get full set of BK or Suhr?

Less string motion near the bridge means a hotter pickup will ensure that the output between the bridge and neck pickup is balance.  If the same pickup was in the neck and bridge pickup, the neck pickup would actually be louder.

What sort of styles do you play?  What do you want out of your axe?

I'd be inclined to say Riff Raff bridge and put a Mule in the neck, but there are PLENTY of other great options!

I play mostly covers of rock/ classic rock looking for the Paul Kossoff thin lizzy type sound?
Yes agree with Mule combo seems to be universally liked on forums.
Was thinking of putting a push/pull switch on middle pup to give conventional setupand option to switch in so may look at a P90 in midd=?

Out of BKPs I would be tempted to get an Emerald set and put the Riff Raff bridge in the middle slot.

Anyone else think this would work?
BLACK HAWKS
IMPULSES
COBRA-T
WAR PIGS
STOCKHOLM
COLD SWEATS
MIRACLE MAN
TRUE GRIT

There's no real science there and you can team up more pickups than you'd think, by just lowering the neck pickup more (if it is too loud).

I'd start with the Riff Raff in the bridge.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog
