Anyone know anything about old Framus Guitars?
« on: October 06, 2014, 04:31:34 PM »
Hey guys.

I've possibly been offered a 1974 Framus S-360 (LP Custom type) in exchange for my 2005 Gibson V with BKPs.

I'm struggling to find much info on them tbh so thought I'd ask here to see if anyone knew anything about them?

Cheers.

Craig

I have played a few Framus guitars and thought they were pants.
YMMV, though ...

I read an interview with Uli Jon Roth where he stated he had a Framus in the 70s. He thought it was pretty good, but then when he got his strat it was far better. Since it was a 70s strat, and knowing the variable quality of those I would be wary of the Framus.

Old guitars are cool with loads of mojo, but i would be wanting to try this one first. I know you are quite pleased with your V.

I think the only old Framus models I'd be interested in would be the Akkermans, based on the  artist associations with Jan Akkerman and (if I remember right) Rik Emmett.

No idea if they're any good though.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Review reckons it is good:

I would not buy before trying it. In de seventies Akkerman played Gibson Les Pauls and Framus guitars like his signature and the S360. He had the same biting tone over the years which I - with respect to his qualities as an outstandig player - didn't appreciate that much.

I like Niels van der Steenhovens tone better in the zero-era of Focus:
