Vintage bass guitars - any good?

I might have stumbled across one on ebay, a V940 (4 string). Ive read good reviews online about it and although a bit skeptical buying a guitar before playing it, its a good price and is in great condition. What are your thoughts on Vintage? anyone played the V940?

dunno about basses but their guitars arent so good in my opinion.

a friend has the vintage metal axe it an ok bass nothing to rave about
