Big Log Apache Demo
« on: October 13, 2014, 03:49:47 PM »
I have built more than a few strats in my time and tried just about all the big boy stuff. Nothing touches the Apaches. Nothing! - Big Log (Recorded by Sean Grexa on Oct. 12, 2014)-

This is a custom built strat with ~4 year old off the shelf Apache pickups. I am plugged into a prototype "Uncle Meat" pedal of my design. This is essentially a way to easily get that lovely thick Strat like heaven that Frank Zappa used to touch on in his later career on a lot of stuff (The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life). Zoots Allures is probably the best example I can think of off the top of my head. Amp is a Vox Nightrain / 12" Vox cab. Enjoy!

Why thank you very much, it is a fairly modest recording setup consisting of my cheap Nikon camera but it is all I have for now!

I just posted this on another thread where a guy is looking to replace his Fat 50s in his guitar. I thought it was important to add here:

"It took me a long time to learn this, but you are better off starting off with a crystal clear, bloomy, chimey sounding strat and adding a little bit of grit with a pedal or your amp.  That is easy to do, and a solid "clean" foundation is important. Getting that silky thick pure clean strat tone becomes unnecessarily hard the "hotter" you go down the pickup line. You have a great set of pickups in the guitar now (Fat 50s), I don't think I would justify the cost of switching them out before at least experimenting with the guitar for a bit. Just my HMO after 30 some odd years of soldering pickups and putting together guitars."

I had the fat 50's on my 50th anniversary Strat and they were replaced shortly after for a set of Bare Knuckle Apaches, such a great tone they have, most beautiful thing!!

Thanks for the kind words! I LOVE Bare Knuckle, they really nailed it with their single coils.
