Hey!

So I went down the dark path of getting stuck in my own head and everywhere online trying to figure out what pickups to put in my Ibanez Prestige SZ1220.
I LOVE my SZ320MH which has a JB/Jazz combo in it. Whatever amp I play through, it sounds great with a bit of tweaking of the 3 EQ knobs on any amp.
However I'm looking for something different, but balanced, while not trying to recreate the magic that flows within this 10 year old machine.

Then I came across someone on here, who's name I can't remember, but he recorded four of his electric guitars acoustically to get a sense of their tone.
I've been contemplating Nailbombs, Miracle Mans, Cold Sweats, Holydivers, Painkillers. Too much. So I did the same thing with my SZ320MH and the SZ1220.

Both guitars have mahogany bodies and (set in) necks, a rosewood fretboard and the gibraltar string through body bridge. However the 1220 has a flame maple top that is rather thick in some areas of the top. Both strung with the same set of d'addario 10-52s. They weigh approximately the same, which is not a lot. My Mushok sig (MMM1) is crazy heavy in comparison and it also has a mahogany body and neck, no top.

Here are two clips of the same simple riff.

Now what I'm hearing is that the 320 has more low end and lower mids/boxy content than the 1220. It sounds louder acoustically too because of this i think. This also translates to why the JB sounds great in it. The dark sounding guitar makes the bright pickup great. In a way.
Then the 1220 sounds brighter, less low mid content, maybe a bit more balanced than the 320.

Maybe I'm just trying to find a good enough way to convince myself that the Holydiver bridge will sound great here so that I can finally end my several months long quest. But from what I've gathered it sounds amazing in brighter guitars. And just amazing in general.
I don't doubt other pickups would sound great here as well, but man I like that Holydiver lead tone

So the question at hand would be: What to pair with the Holydiver!?
I've been contemplating the VHII and the Cold Sweat. Not sure about the Holydiver neck. Haven't dismissed it though.
What it needs to do is fluent, singing leads at higher gain (I'm not a shredder but I don't stay away from picking up the pace from time to time), fat blues tones under lower gain and split great for sparkly cleans!

Man this turned out longer than I first thought. Thanks if you managed to get all the way here!

To me it sounds like you might prefer the Emerald neck.  It has that singing, bluesy quality and pairs well with the Holy Diver.

VHII neck.  Beautiful cleans, warm, works in Mahogany,  Dynamic with lots of great pick attack.

Emerald neck also sounds awesome but probably not quite as hot.

I can't comment on the emerald other than to say I have only heard great things.
I can comment on the hd/vhii combo. It's ace.
Vhii ņeck = crystal cleans, articulate, pronounced pick attack. Bright when used aggressively.  Warmer when used gently. Stays darker/warmer when rolling off the volume.  Splits great. Has a woody tone, vowel like..
When distorted its quite fat but not too much for me, and is kind of smooth except the pick attack, which really like.
I have found that my vhii is a volume monster in comparison a rebel yell but the holy Diver can keep up if the hight adjustment is set. (I am not saying the hd is weak btw)
it will do great at most styles.

I think you would have an awesome guitar with hd/vhii combo. I did notice your guitars had a little throatyness to them, (maybe the mahogany? my mahogany,  maple top is throaty too) which I could not anticipate a result for.
to give you another point of reference I hear the hd/ vhii combo kinda like a dimarzio evolution set but more open, louder and sprinkled with some great harmonic over tones and a little more punch in the bass.

The guitar I have this combo in is basswood,  maple neck and board.
It sounds brittle, bright but doesn't loose any of the mids and bass which keeps it sounding naturally fuller.

I hadn't given the Emerald much thought, but after listening to the sound clips I'm torn yet again!
