« on: November 04, 2014, 12:16:37 PM »
hi,

i've ordered an asat special tribute and i'm still waiting for the guitar so i don't know how it sounds but it was an amazing deal so i bought it..Any experience? basically i was searching for a les paul jr or a mahogany guitar with p 90 so i really don't know what to expect from the asat and its pickups.. as far as i know they are different from the p90's

You ordered a guitar, but don't know what to expect? You're living on the edge man.
The Magnetic Field Design high output singlecoil pickups sound to me somewhere between a p90 and a normal single coil.

   the guitar was beautiful and at an extremely low price so without pondering i bought it : )    since i wanted a mahogany p 90 i was wondering if there is a p90 bare knuckle able to turn the asat into or closer to a les paul junior

That would be the Nantucket! Just check if they will fit. You can also roll the topend a bit off with the toneknob. That works great on tele's.
Btw, I like those Asats.

I used to have 2 asat , 1 maple & 1 maple rosewood. I liked them both and the rosewood one was brighter
They're darker than a typical tele, less snappy . That said i played in a country band at the time and they'll cover everything a tele should. I got mine at a good price too second hand, as no one had heard of them (mid 90's) but the 'hellecasters' used them.
Good guitars, i liked the bridge.

Thanks guys. Anyway i Got the guitar.. Needs a little set up and strings change but the neck pickup seems good, i'm a little disappointed with bridge. I think i need a real p90.. Any experiences/ advices with pickup change n an asat special?

I've never owned an ASAT, but the pickups look to be a completely different size from P-90s.

Are you prepared to submit the guitar to a bit of surgery?  Or maybe BKP could rewind the existing pickups.

i don't want to mod it..I should buy another pick guard that fits a regular p90 (Nantucket?)..this is what they told me..so the problem is: where do i find custom pick guard in Europe?

You should be able to get a pickguard made.

There is a place in Germany that sells metal pickguards on ebay.  You can also find them on facebook:

I'm sure there are others who make plastic ones.  You can get custom made WD Music pickguards via a company called guitarsupplies.nl

Thanks for the answers. I'm pondering what to do: do mods on the guitar or sell it.. I don't know. Anyway today i got back the les paul from the setup man with new pickup, the holydiver and it's amazing. My les paul never sounded so good, it's crazy. Thanks bareknuckle!
