NCGD New Charity Guitar Day!
« on: November 05, 2014, 11:26:52 AM »
So, this happened...

An Eric Johnson Strat, signed by mr. Johnson.  I wouldn't call myself a Johnson fan, although I certainly have plenty of respect for him.  This is a great guitar though, like a 50's Strat with subtle, intelligent modifications;  12" radius, staggered tuners so no string trees, 5 way switch, tones for neck and bridge pickups.  And it's just really well put together with very good woods.

It was signed and donated by Fender to be sold for a charity which is run by a friend of mine, and that's how I've ended up with it :)

I can't see the pics, so I'll have to imagine it until later (maple board, or the bound rosewood version?)

The question is, did it cost you more or less than an off-the-shelf one?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Very tasty, and I agree, sensible mods to a bona fide classic. If it were mine I'd swap the pickguard out to save the signature because I would plan on playing the snot out of it.

I actually ended up paying a bit less than the UK retail price.  Got it in Southern Ireland though, so not sure what way the exchange is at the minute, although I paid in Sterling.

Philly, it's the sunburst one, with one piece maple neck.

Now I have to track down the right scratchplate for it, so I can preserve the signed one!

it does looks like its going to be a fine guitar, and possibly one that will increase in value a bit more than others if you're into that sort of thing.

Very cool stuff! I think I repeatedly heard that it is one of the best Strats (some say the best) made today.

I recently pondered if I should learn some parts of Cliffs of Dover, perhaps my favorite instrumental tune of all time, and this would be a glorious guitar to do it on (yeah I know the studio version uses an ES).

Congrats to you and the charity!

Wow, I love that guitar, since I like strats and a 12 inch radius. These are really good strats, a good alternative for a CS.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
