Midge "The worst guitarist Thin Lizzy ever had" Ure
« on: November 17, 2014, 10:00:52 PM »
I just stumbled across this quite bizarre YouTube clip from a Mike Batt musical from the 80's and realised that I might have under rated Midge "The worst guitarist that Thin Lizzy ever had" (his words, not mine) Ure as a guitarist for all these years.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUukzvLgo0w

(check out Midge's guitar part from 2:30 - 3:32)

Yeah, I always knew Midge was a very modest kind of chap.  But what a weird clip that was.

Great find that clip. Lots to be amazed about!

That was strangely mesmerising. Never heard of it before. Did I spot Roger Daltrey in there?

I think John Hurt was in there...

Midge was probably the least appropriate Lizzy guitarist.  But in the right context some of the stuff he played with Ultravox was great - Call Of The Wild is a case in point:

(actually, the album version is cooler...)

But I always loved that really mechanical tone he got.

Edit - this is better, 'cos it's mimed!!!

I'd forgotten that strange primer-grey Ibanez Blazer he had.

I think I agree with this post ... How someone could sit through the first two and a half minutes to even discover Ure there I don't know!
