If you want some of a AIV-magnet magic, I would look at the BKP Yardbirds. Though by no means a Mule, there is some resemblance in terms of balance (a full tone, no icepick in the topend), dynamics (pick soft: smooth and clean, dig in for more agression) and character (vintage to vintagehot). Both can handle loads of gain without mushing up things.
