Indeed the Black Dog is much brighter and lower output than the Crawler (bridge models). I generally hear the Black Dog bridge as a bright pickup, more so than the product description indicates.

The Crawler bridge is darker, fatter and more compressed. It's the pickup of choice if you want to fatten up a guitar's tone without going super high output.

Cheers Stephan

How bright is BD? I`ve heard that apparently is a bit brighter than RY bridge even.
Would BD be fine in e.g standard Strat guitar (alder, maple, rosewood for instance)? Just forget about it`s bigger brother HD for a while
Or is mainly designed for LP style?

Darkbluemurder, As far as remember you have BD neck in dark Strat type guitar?
How would you describe BD neck?

cheers

IMO not so much "bright" as very clear on the treble end.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Crawler in a Les Paul is always a gamble. I think it performs best in bolt on alder/ash guitars or in brighter sounding PRS's.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

No, that was a BD bridge in the dark strat - and in the bridge position. It worked well there because it balanced the darkness of the guitar. I have not tried it in a "medium bright" or "bright" strat but I can imagine it would work there too - maybe with a 250k volume pot. I have not tried it in the same guitar as the RY bridge.

The BD neck was in the Single Cut but has now been replaced with a Riff Raff neck. The BD neck is very clear and bright but not necessarily vintage in character. Certainly not something I would use in the bridge position.

Cheers Stephan

Darkbluemurder, as there`s not much info about BD neck, would you describe how BD neck copes with leads?
Some time ago someone has stated that due to emphasis in mids, BD in general are good soloing pickups.
thanks

as there`s not much info about BD neck,

Here is my review, from having tried it in two different guitars:

would you describe how BD neck copes with leads?

I think it copes very well with leads even though I don't really hear an emphasis in midrange with this pickup, at least not with the neck version. The mids are there, not scooped but a bit subdued.

Cheers Stephan

Many thanks!
And PRS is quite brighter than LP due to less amount of wood, is that right (although same types of wood are used)? Never played PRS, dont laugh
Would you describe it as something in between LP and Strat when it comes to balance between dark and bright?

Just trying to gather more info about BD as well as trying to figure out where it suits the best

WOW BD brighter than a RY in the bridge ? Seriously anybody have any deeper experience with the two ? Reason I ask is I only own the RY set in a LP and Im about to buy a 2nd LP and my 2nd BK set. Been thinking BD with a RY neck or maybe just a Mule set. Im seriously pleased with RY set

I never had any experience with any of them, but when I was asking Ben from BKP about BD bridge, he said that BD is slightly brighter than RY bridge.

Yeh, the BD is quite bright. Actually the only BKP i didn't like, ton of low mids, thin on the high mids and then fairly bright. Too much unbalance for me. It does the Led Zep riffs like a boss though, if that is what you want.

The Mule for more PAF classic rock or Abraxas for more midrange Classic Rock.
