Reincarnated NPD!
« on: December 12, 2014, 01:19:44 AM »
I have just swapped my crawler neck from 1 RG to Another and its sooo much more awesome now!
The question is what bridge and middle pickups to pair it with that would keep up with the smooth power and inner thickness?
Crawler, painkiller, warpig, juggernaut????

In the middle, assuming it is a single coil, I would deffo say Slowhand. Same idea of beefing up a vintage sound.

For the bridge the Crawler is an obvious choice. Maybe the Warpig, but not the jugg or PK in my mind. If the neck fits the bridge will too imho, cause I feel like the neck is even more fiddly than the bridge. It will give your RG a big growly vintage sound. A bit of roaring LP in an RG. It really feels like it was designed with strat-ish things in mind. I got a Crawler set in an axe where I feel like the bridge is great, but the unsplit neck is just a bit too closed off. Thus I imagine when the neck is right the bridge will be even better and have none of the too dark stigma.

The only real alternative I see is the Warpig, but that is on a whole nother level of being all out. I starts where the Crawler leaves off, which is classic heavy metal.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Ace!

Would  you say the warpig  goes into 90s thrash and beyond territory?
I want a pick up that will go all out but The fear of mud and flub with the pig is prevalent.

Fair thump of low end with the Warpig, but it's tight and not loose at all.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

Yes, the WP has a big low end, yes it is not really loose. But. When I think of 90s thrash I think of a more high mids grinding sound. Nailbomb style really. However it still might work out with the warpig in a really bright guitar. In my mind the Warpig might be too big for that sound, while the Crawler is more at home in the range of everything to 80s metal. In the right guitar it could do some thrash, but I think that would be stretching it. The Nailbomb is the obvious choice for 90s thrash, but I do not know how it would pair with the crawler neck. There is a disconnect there I feel.

I really must say I am lost here, so IŽll take my leave. In my educated guess the Crawler bridge is likely too vintage for 90s thresh and the Warpig might work brilliantly, but could also be a bit too big. Nailbomb, possibly, but how does it pair? I do not know.

I hope you get more out of my thoughts than out of my conclusion. ;)

For thrash I would go for either a Cold Sweat, Miracle Man, or C-Bomb.

Possibly a Painkiller.

Ceramic magnet is really the thrash sound

Funny I thought the painkiller too because of the mids, but the eq will never tell you about its voice really and neither do words to a degree, it All in the ear.
I just let go of of a c bomb in exchange for the Miracle man in a drop B ibanez jem.
Hindsight has had me miss the Nailbomb especially for the down tunings. Buy the Miracle man is good but at times I feel too sterile maybe and believe it or not a little flabby with drop b, tho this maybe due to my thicker strings. Really I want the MM in one of my std tuned rg's .
I will try the MM with the crawler neck and let you guys know.

Dudes I put some miracle man clips in my instagram account. Also I did some magnet swapping with the stock ibanez v7 v8 humbuckers.
