Has anyone played a Rebel Yell with 250k pots?

I've just ordered a Rebel Yell for my Eclipse, and I have a very strong feeling I'm going to end up loving this pickup to the point I'll want to buy another. Everything I've heard and how it's been described remind me of the old JBs, and I read an interview were Steve Stevens said it's the same as an old JB, and he didn't realise until after.

What brings me to ask about the 250k pots is because I have a Music Man Silhouette, and I'll be getting 2 single coils and looking for a bridge humbucker. I'f I got a Rebel Yell, what would a 250k pot do the sound, as in EQ wise. And what qualities will it bring, and/or remove?

A lower value pot tends to flatten the resonant peak of the pickup. Sonically this usually means that the higher pot value makes the tone brighter. A lower value pot can help to remove the icepick and harshness but too low can also make the pickup to lose articulation. Where the optimum point is, i.e. remove all the icepick but not the articulation, depends on many factors such as primary tone of the guitar, other equipment used and personal preference.

The Rebel Yell bridge is a bright pickup. I use it with a 500k pot (that reads a bit lower on the meter) in a LP Custom and have no intention to change anything - it sounds just perfect in this guitar. You may come to the same conclusion with a 250k pot in your guitar.

How do you think the Rebel Yell will respond in the thinner ESP Eclispe? That's the guitar the one I've currently ordered is going in. I do also have a Full Thickness, so curious as what to expect

I've got a RY set in one of my Eclipses, it's an Eclipse 1 with a 3/4 thickness mahogany body, maple cap,  mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard. Don't worry, it sounds great. Although the RY is considered a bright pickup it still has enough low-end to give it body and the top end isn't harsh or fizzy at all - its reputation as a bright pickup seems to come from its upper mids rather than the extremes of its top end. I have a habit of switching pickups quite frequently but this is the one set that I've never switched.

A 250k volume pot would make the RY bridge (or any pickup for that matter) less bright than a 500k volume pot.

It removes the best part of the pickup i.e. the harmonics.

Been running the RY set in my 1999 LP Classic on a 500k pot for about a year now. Id say I agree its bit bright but Id rather describe it as cut than bright. The damn thing cuts so defined its crazy thus the first impressions are its bright. I use to run a JB on a 250k pot and have thought about the same for the RY. Only reason I haven't done the switch is I run a Jensen paper oil filled cap on the tone pot and Ive got it rolled back a tad to 7-8ish. Problem solved still bloody cutting and just a feather darker. My suggestion would be leave the 500k in there cause like mentioned don't want to loose any of the killer harmonics the RY's have. Quite beautiful IMO
