So...just ordered a set of Juggernauts for my MM JPXI
« on: December 19, 2014, 12:51:41 AM »
I've been considering this one a while. Whilst my tastes have been growing more towards playing hard/heavy rock, I still have my roots firmly in metal.

I wanted this guiatr to have a metal tone in Drop D, but at the same time have a great lead tone. For the last couple months I've been thinking about it more and more. I wanted to a pickup that could edge me more towards Avenged Sevenfold's style. I thought of many pickups such as the Black Hawks and Warpigs. With the Black Hawks, from what I've heard and read about, this might be a little too heavy for what I'm looking for, but I still considered the Alnico Black Hawks. Again, I was thinking this may be "too metal". I know Synyster Gates uses Invaders, but I really didn't fancy them, and Warpigs seemed a good choice. But again, it seems too OTT. Whilst they have a good metal tone, that style of music has a lot of lead guitar within the song, so I didn't want something that was just an all out metal pickup. I wanted it to be music for the solos, etc. So I just bit the bullet today and ordered myself a set of Juggernauts. My logic being they are metal orientated, but have the perfect tone to do them Synyster Gates style leads and solos.

Well just thought I'd share this. I'll post a pic and get some clips once I have recieved them and I've had them fitted :)

A mini review would be nice also along with the pics. Being thinking about them for a while, but having never tried them, i can't be too sure if they right for me. I would say though, they are more versatile than the Warpig or Blackhawks.

They're versatile pickups in that they do lead, rhythm, and cleans convincingly well.  I'd also say they're quite a warm pickup set and in spite of a real bite in the high end, they are really smooth sounding and 'purr' on the top. They do have an aggressive pick attack and they are very articulate, which balances well with the overall voicing.

i can't say anything about the neck pickiup. i hear great things about it. but the bridge pickup is super versatile and it really is super dynamic. very reactive to pick attack and handles cleans all the way to super heavy stuff like a champ.

What genres can the Jugg set do?

Can we do Classic Rock, Rock Blues etc?

Or is mostly for the Metal peoples?

Umm, mostly for Metal peoples?

This is a difficult question to answer.  I will say this, the Juggerset won't do classic rock or blues with a 'vintage' voice.

It sounds good clean or with lower gain settings, but it has a very contemporary voice with this 'hollow mid' thing going on, even though it does have a lot of mids.  I love how smooth, thick, rich, and aggressive it is.

The versatility is more a comment on how the pickups can do lead, rhythm, and cleans equally well.  Low gain and high gain tones are also handled equally well and it is possible to get a good tone from the pickups for widely differing applications.

Jugger-neck:  Wonderful, warm, bell like cleans.  Buttery mid gain lead tones, and a smooth high gain lead tone that is easy to play and excels at shred stuff.

In spite of everything the Juggerset does do, it does not do the PAF humbucker thing.  At all.
