Help! Skervesen build
« on: December 21, 2014, 06:24:06 PM »
I'm doing a skervesen build and not sure what pick ups to put in. As most of you know I am a huge advocate for the warpigs, black Hawks and mules.
Specs for the guitar are:
-Mahogany or swamp ash body (still undecided)
-Wenge and babinga neck
-Macassar ebony fretboard
-Schaller hannes bridge with hip shot griplock tuners.
-I play shred and metal and will be doing standard tuning since I'm anti "djent".
What pick ups do you recommend and why for mahogany or swamp ash?? Should I stick with the warpigs or venture out to the juggernauts?
I like a pick up with power, balls, harmonics and great leads

See your point there, it's designed for basswood i think. Doesn't mean that it wouldn't work though. Might be best to drop BKP an email on this one.

I did and they recommended the juggernaut or warpig ceramic. Just wanted to get forum input on this juggernauts in general.

I decided I am going to do mahogany body. I love the pronounced kids it delivers. It has that really howling sound-especially with leads. Bolt-on mahogany has consistantly sounded good anytime I have played it. Should I stick with wenge and bubinga neck? Or do rosewood and ebony? I am going to stick with the Juggernaut set for pick ups. After doing extensive searching and sound sampling, I feel they will work the best. Especially for leads and since I utilize cleans and will have the world domination mod on the guitar (similar to acoustic mod). Any suggestions or comments are much appreciated. Good or bad.

You are asking for input on the guitar spec for your build.
Members here can give you advice on the BKP pups, not too sure about the Skervesen though.

Yeah, most of us know some things, but knowing the differences between a wenge & bubinga neck vs a rosewood & ebony one is pretty much reserved to guitar builders, and even there experienced ones, as the former combination is not that common. If it goes beyond classic wood combinations most of us are out.

The consensus seems to be that the bottom end is tight and crushing without being surgical. Thing is that it is a crossover between the Blackhawk and the Aftermath as Misha wanted the best of both. So it will not go as low as the Blackhawk, but instead shifts some of that bass up to the low mids for extra palm mute crush. The midds and all purr in an agressive manner and the high end delivers cut and harmonics, but is musically rounded. That helps cope with modern high gain amps and allows the bridge to be a great lead pickup. Really great for all kinds of modern rock and metal sounds. The neck is a modified VHII made to keep up with the bridge. Cleans are modern on both but work shockinly well for such a modern pickup.

If you like the Blackhawk and Warpig I´d say deffo branch out with the Jugg. You should really like it I recon.

Holy cr@p..that was excellent. Thank you for the details. Yeah my favorites are the warpig and black hawk and I do dig the aftermath too on low tunings so the juggernaut sounds definitely up my ally if its a cross between black hawk and aftermath. I'm getting very excited now.

Just ordered the juggernaut to try in my McNaught. I tried the black hawk in there to test it out and it sounds good but not as good as in my Parker. I can't wait 6-7 months to try it in my skervesen build. Gonna have to try it sooner
