JCM800 is a great amp to crank and boost, but the Thunder\Screamer are so much more.. BUT an ENGL has its own voice and so it will do the 'sound' of a marshall crunch, but wont sound LIKE a marshall.. if you know what i mean :P

www.worldguitars.co.uk bucketshred.

cheapest i could find!

Try googling for SoundsGreatMusic in manchester aswell, they carry them.

That's exactly true. It's hard explaining them to people who haven't tried them, LOL.

My savage se's crunch channel kind of sounds like an amalgamation of about 5 different classic amps, lol.

It all depends on who's mixing you live. When i went to see Kreator, they were using ENGL fireballs i think or the Powerball. But either way it sounded huge and it cut through VERY well

I suppose that rather than worrying, I'll have to go play on a load of amps whilst I'm down in London, I can see a lot of money being spent on the tube.

I haven't tried mine live. I hear having vintage 30 speakers helps you cut, but yeah, on amps like the powerball (and i assume the fireball) it is a kind of a scooped sound, so i could understand the problems. That's why I got a savage se instead of a powerball.

Also, I've heard a lot of people say that they cut through fine, and that the people complaining don't know how to dial in the amp. You want to keep your mids up high, lol.

alot of death metal bands use engls fine.. and if you've ever heard Primal Fear live you will know they cut just fine! (and Zakk beating pinch harmonics... without emgs :P)

I bet it was on HC you read they didnt cut, probably posted by a guy who takes 2 $3000 Diezel heads and $1000 cabs to a small pub gig and his band went on after a bunch of new to gigging teens who lent the Fireball of another band for the night

I use a Screamer in the house/small gigs and borrow my friends Powerball for bigger gigs, total ENGL devoutee.

and i play old school thrash metal, jazz, blues, classic rock and it covers all of those grounds very well with a versitile guitar.

the only amps i'd ever consider replacing my ENGL's with is a Mesa/Boogie Mark II C+/Mark IV/Roadking or Bogner Ecstacy.

I would go for a Marshall DSL. The sound is breathtaking, litterary, its a VERY powerful amp. All the old school thrashers are using it (slayer), and Trivium. If you dont feel frightened enough about the sound, place an overdrive pedal in front and kick serious ass.

The DSL is way better than the TSL, and is more suitable for thrash than engl or framus. So thumbs up for Marshall!!

I'm pretty sure Slayer use JCM800's (2203 I think) rather than the newer ones.
