Sg700s upgrade
« on: December 25, 2014, 06:10:28 PM »
I quite like the bridge pup and its output, but the neck is definately too muddy to me.

What would be a good upgrade in the same output?  I like vintage tones, think Hackett, Barre

Hard to know exactly what will balance with another branded bridge pup. There might even be a volume difference, as my Seymour SH-1 neck is slightly louder than the Holy Diver bridge in my Charvel.

But the vintage vibe, the Mule would work.

Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul

Mule-neck is absolutely great and a safe bet. An alternative would be a Stormy Monday-neck or a HB sized Blue Note-neck.

I put in a Abraxas set today.  Much better allround: the neck is warm but not muddy, and the bridge has much more character with the same output as the original.  Clips later.
