NOS Marconi ECC83 valve... any info?
« on: December 27, 2014, 09:42:13 AM »
Found a couple of these NOS valves in my valve drawer. Plates look very bright and silver. Good sound. Anybody knows its origin?

mystery solved!!! itīs a Mazda silver plate made France in the late 50s or early 60s! Gorgeous tone. Very clear and bright. Made my JTM45 with KT66s sound like pure studio Hendrix with notes jumping out of the speakers.

Great valve if you need to  wake up your amp a little with some righteous vintage style (i.e. not fizzy) righteous top-end.

Thanks guys!!

How do you find them tone wise?

I like the tone; I find them to be well-balanced with a nice top end; not as thick or euphonic as old Mullards.

i have a JTM-45 amp with GEC KT66s into a large, plywood  closed back 2 x 12 cab with Greenbacks. This combo can sound a bit muddy so I swapped an old Mullard ECC83 short plates (v1) for the Mazda with great results. The Mullard was just too righ in the mids for me.
