BKP for Les Paul Neck and Jackson Demmelition V both positions

Hi chaps,

I currently have BK Nailbombs (Alnico) in a Les Paul Standard. I love the Bridge but find the Neck very spikey. I have it coil tapped but never use it that way (though I would, but nope!) and I seems very tinny with no fullness. Hollow is the way I would describe it.

I use a EVH 5153 50 watter with only a few effects and i'm on a cable. I play hard rock / metal.

Now is it, or could it be down to the wiring? The guy who did it is very respectable so I doubt its his workmanship. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm looking for something more fluid when driven for solos in the higher positions and something that can be used for a well balanced clean sound.

Next, I have a Jackson 2008 Japanese made Pro Artist Series Demmelition with EMG 81 (bridge) and 60 (neck). I find them to be hollow which is a common thing. I'm looking for a real aggressive mid range with soft (not ear piercing) but articulate highs. It also has to track well in the low end.

I'm currently looking at the Aftermath, Black Hawk or maybe Pain Killers. Does anyone have any first hand experience? The body is alder with a maple through neck. This guitar tends to handle the more Metal end of the set with a tube screamer pushing the front end of the EVH.

Any help and guidance would be awesome!

Unless the neck pickup's volume is much lower than the bridge pickup's and there is a lot more hum I would not suspect a wiring error. Never had first hand experience with the Nailbomb neck but I have read here on this forum that it can indeed sound somewhat "scooped" or "single coil like". For a fuller tone, look to the Cold Sweat neck or VHII neck.

If you are doing drop tuning in C or lower def go with the after math. If you are around standard or D check out the juggernaut. Much more pleasant on the high end. Also can do down tunes just as good as aftermath's. Black hawk, a very choosey pick up but awesome in the right guitar with killer clarity and power. Usually better with a darker voiced guitar. What tuning are you doing? Also, what does your guitars sound like acoustically?

Good guess! We are tuning to drop C. The Jackson is bright compared to the Les Paul, its not light though and certainly not as light as the cheaper Jacksons. have been checking out the Forum for reviews on both the AM and BH and trying to find decent sound clips for them on youtube too. I'm leaning towards the AM at the moment.

I would do the aftermath personally. The black hawk is very choosey. It's either really great or not great. I personally love the aftermath for drop c tuning or lower. The clarity is so good.
